Cool, but I believe you can argue that certain features, like bookmarks and tab management are more important than others. Instead the Firefox team decided to implement an ad-blocker and screenshot tool, while there are plenty of better solutions out there.

But anyway, do you have experience with the Pocket tool? I became excited until I saw you need to sign up, and they are probably monitoring all of your bookmarks. Also, is there a way to make the tab bar show multiple rows? This is another example of something that FF should already take care of.

 

Certainly, but every person has different needs and I guess most people don't care. But I do acknowledge that some things do work better if they are included as standard, rather than requiring an extension. For example, I'm using an extension which makes new tabs open to the right of the current tab. While it works, new tabs actually still open at end of all other tabs and then are moved next to current tab, rather than opening next to the current tab in the first place.

No I don't. Actually this is the first I've heard of it. I've never taken much interest in Firefox until the last few weeks when I started using it.

Which extension do you people use to manage cookies in FF57, or you just run the built-in one? I used to install Cookie Monster in pre-Quantum times, was really fond of its "default deny" and "temporarily allow" settings. However, the addon has been long gone.

 

None. I use Private Browsing Mode, allow first party cookies and don't allow third party cookies. Cookies are cleared on exit.

Even though I am PC illiterate (I qualify this comment in that I built this PC, but that is mechanical which I am!), with the help of Wilders and individuals like bo elam, I have muddled thru and have v57 appearing much like v56, that mysteriously disappeared and became unrecoverable after the latest Windows Update, even with M Reflect images! Anyway, the one thing I would change if I could is the size of the tabs (on the tab bar). I believe I read 50 is the smallest setting (read after trying to make it 10) but they still are way to big in my opinion. If anyone has any resolution for that it would be appreciated!

If this is in reference to me, I have to say firstly, what is even more not welcoming on any forum is a self promoting forum policeman. Secondly, the post you linked hardly deals with the issue I'm requesting assistance with. I hope your post gave you great satisfaction!

 

CTR is gone for 57 forward because Mozilla finally junked the unpopular Australis interface.

Main drawback is the lack of extensions but that should be addressed by the summer of 2018.

Which is when the next ESR version is due to arrive.

Are they working for you on 57? Have you found any reliable replacements for them? I am still on ESR due their dependency in my work-related activity, alas.
Wish I could make the switch as 57 is much faster loading sites than 52ESR on my rigs.

for the rest do some investigation on your own on addons.mozilla.org as those are IMO available.

before updating - create a full ! profile backup. dont use the old profil, try to export as much you can, in special extension settings.

btw - Firefox 58 is upcoming these days, a bit late for v57, dont you think ?

From your list I use HTTPS Everywhere and uBlock Origin and they work on 57 with no problems.

 

Yes, bit harsh. What is it based on ... surely EFF is a reputable outfit?

That said, I still wonder at its advantages over Smart HTTPS. I do use both on different machines / profiles.

it does not matter if firefox opens http or httpS as long you dont try to enter personal data - then firefox is showing a message that personal data is sent on a not sured (http) page.

smart https or https everywhere try to use https but firefox can show a warning for mixed code (if not, be lucky) if yes such extensions are fake because personal data is still send via http. i dont know if firefox is able to recognize this. at least you fool your self and force firefox to show fake security.

 

uMatrix has a setting to forbid mixed content, not ticked by default.

Have set that now, guess it would help.
