Hi. I´ve been using Outpost Firewall Pro since Online Armor was (unfortunately) discontinued and it is great, but it too has been discontinued and they stopped providing updates on December 2016, almost a year ago now. I´m looking for a similar firewall that allows me to grant or deny access to applications when they request an outbound connection, preferably one without HIPS, or at least one that allows you to disable those features. I do not like the Windows firewall, even with Windows Firewall Control and I´ve tried Comodo in the past and didn´t like it either (I also remeber trying Fort Know and a couple others -can´t remember their names- and disliking them). Thanks in advance.
As they say, "you ain't the only one". I am still using Outpost Pro V9.3 on 3 computers. Other suggestions will be coming in soon but I'm still looking for one I like. Good luck.
Same problem. My opinion is it allows AV's to show strengths (without the firewall). Screw the end user. No answer, except they will dumb us down!
I guess I could be happy with Zone Alarm FREE firewall. I did use it for about a month with no complaints. You might try it jhr76.
I have a year of that, left ZA Pro. Already uninstalled. Since there is know way to block simple ports in any program. I will eat the 15 dollars. Not even worth that. Garbage.
In the past I had bad luck with Comodo firewall and didn't try it again for a few years until the other day. I find it to be much improved with very little system impact. It could be worth a try.
No but i did a little digging, and did not like what i found. Screw 30 dollars a year for snake-oil. Thanks, but Comodo is out of the question.
TS, there are not many free standalone firewalls. Either they are bundled with an internet security suite or they are fronts of Windows Firewall like Tinywall, SimpleWall etc
SpyShelter --HIPS, did you want to consider another one? Nothing can exactly replace what you're obliged to give up. I know about Online Armor, right? I got over my aversion to nasty-looking Windows firewall and just started doing the rules, most of which are outbound, a few inbound like ports 445 and 80. No "notify" option but OK, what can you do? Any consideration for other front ends for the firewall, like Glasswire? No personal experience with this type of software but heard some positive things about that one. It's true; not many attractive free choices here.
Ok, one simple FW without HIPs, here SterJo NetStalker You can use it as a FW and a network monitoring tool
I already had ESET Internet Security on two computers AND the other three had ESET NOD 32 which I got for FREE from an ESET company in Scandinavia. This FREE gift enabled me to switch from NOD32 to Internet Security so I uninstalled NOD32 and installed Internet Security on the other three computers. Now I don't have to worry about firewalls any more. PLUS, I have a few more copies of the programs for a while anyway.

I been using SterJo for about two weeks now. Its okay. Not sure how far I trust it. Seems to do about the same as PeerBlock
