I guess I won't even test it, who will want to try a reduced version of KAV with a reduced protection when you have full AVs for free.
I think this is their emergency strategy to stop losing users and feed their cloud.
They are going to have a hard time in the consumer market if they don't adapt quickly

KAV Free does offer basic protection but that's exactly its aim. Its not meant to compete with the company's premium products but rather to offer basic AV protection to every one.

It succeeds at that goal rather admirably with a clean and user-friendly interface and its long overdue.

Paying for more is not the question for me.
I have a unused payed KAV licence sitting here, but don't want to use it.
I'm always looking for a layered security, with minimal impact and annoyance.
As I rate myself a experienced user, I'm looking for a protection, that is not covered by brain.exe...

Microsoft Edge and related apps like the Store are unable to access the internet. Uninstalled.

Are you sure is KAV'S fault? It doesn't have a firewall to control the connections

It appeared to be the KAV plugin for IE. Also, I have Adguard the two bumped heads. I uninstalled and reinstalled KAV without the IE plugin and it works fine now.

Anyone knows how often does the free KAV updates its definitions? Once a day, twice daily, every few hours or user customizable?

    TIA

KAV Free appears to update every 24 hours. Paid edition, more frequently.

You can also disable the plugin.

KAV free updates as frequently as the paid version.

When I tested it it was updating once an hour (if I remember correctly) but you could change schedule settings.

Can you check whether the update frequency is customizable?

I would have to reinstall it in VM since I don't run it any more. I'll report as soon as I can test it.

Here are options when setting it up:

IDK how frequent automatic update is.

Are you sure there weren't any leftovers from a previous antivirus you had installed?
