HitmanPro.ALERT Support and Discussion Thread

Discussion in 'other anti-malware software' started by erikloman, May 25, 2012.

  1. Are license holders which also happen to be forum members not allowed to ask that question?

You paid for something which turns out to be a gift (free for lifetime also).

Maybe they can get second licence for free?

  3. Question is to @markloman, but it is after office hours and a public holiday in Holland. I trust he will answer this tomorrow.

You let it appear that giving away HitmanPro licenses to Wilders members is new. We gave away free licenses since CTP1 (July 2014) and I've stated this again beginning in 2015:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...iscussion-thread.324841/page-165#post-2460920
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...iscussion-thread.324841/page-204#post-2480093

Since then many members also bought a license to support our work.

I've never stated to give lifetime licenses because our License mechanism does not support lifetime licenses. Just contact me and I'll extend your existing license if time runs out.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Was unaware of the first gift posted. Thanks for the timely answer.

So far they have generally required you be here a couple of months first.

Sure you can ask the question. My answer if asked would be: You paid for it. Live with it. Would you have asked the question if Erik had sent a PM instead?

I hope Erik doesn't regret his post. I already see the masses signing up... and the lurkers coming out of the woodwork.

    @erikloman

    Hi,

    I've been trying HitmanPro.Alert 3.1.8 (build 360) on a 64-bit computer running Windows 10 1511 (10586.164) and I've ran into the following issues:

    1. Your own HPA exploit test tool (32-bit exe, version 1.9.2.26) seems to get past Alert if I choose "ROP - system() in msvcrt". The calculator starts but the exploit tool crashes and I have to dismiss Windows' error reporting messages twice. The calculator continues to run. That could be an oddity of my system, however.

    2. I'm hooking MusNotificationUx.exe on my system (I'm not a fan of Windows Update's modal prompts to update my system at all) using an Application Verifier hook. With HitmanPro.Alert installed, this doesn't work well at all:

    Code:
    Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 10.0.10586.567 AMD64
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    CommandLine: C:\Windows\System32\MusNotificationUx.exe Dialog_DownloadAvailable 0

While I guess HitmanPro.Alert is technically doing its job, I get Windows' standard error reporting dialog saying MusNotificiationUx crashed, instead of HitmanPro.Alert's modal banner (and nothing is added to the event log).

It doesn't matter in the hook what function I tell the Application Verifier framework to target or even if I hook nothing at all or ignore DLL_PROCESS_VERIFIER in DllMain entirely, HitmanPro.Alert will cause any process I've enabled the Application Verifier on with my DLL to crash. The only way I can stop the process from crashing is to uninstall HitmanPro.Alert and after rebooting, starting MusNotificationUx with my hook works fine. Disabling safe browsing, exploit mitigation and all of the options under risk reduction is not enough - the process will still crash.

(Also: I'm not sure how to exclude "C:\Windows\System32\MusNotificationUx.exe" under normal usage anyhow. Since hmpalert.exe is a WOW64 application and MusNotificationUx.exe only exists in System32 and not SysWOW64, to add MusNotificationUx.exe I have to point the open file dialog to "C:\Windows\Sysnative\MusNotificationUx.exe" instead and it gets recorded into the Registry key with HMPA's settings with "Sysnative" instead of "System32". As such, I suspect "Sysnative\MusNotificationUx.exe" won't be found by the 64-bit hmpalert DLL and the 64-bit drivers.)

    Thanks.

    Time to praise:
Erik and Mark Loman turned out to be innovative, generous and best supporting developers, I can think of.

I rate HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert the most innovative security software, by now.
Giving free licences to Wilders members is a generous gesture, but also a win/win situation. Well done.
Issues are taken very serious by the loman brothers and get fixed as fast as possible.

No one should complain about having bought a licence, even if he could get it for free.
HMP and HMP.A are very well worth the money.

After buying 6 licenses over the last 2 years I still FULLY agree with you!

  15. I am not following you. Where is the complaint? When that is your general attitude towards licenses (never complain), then you must be annoyed by all the forum members complaining about Windows.

I've been blessed with 2 x 12 month subscriptions from Erik but with last Black Friday specials I bought 2 x 2 years licenses.

It is probably best for the brothers, if they really wish to give licenses to longtime members, to initiate dialogue with a PM rather than a post, so as not to attract abuses or flooding of request.

I own licenses, having paid for them for multiple years. Had I known that being a Wilders member entitled me to a free license, damn right I would have asked for one. So my question is, if there is a policy in place to gift members with free licenses, why then do the brothers post advertisements here around the holidays to purchase the programs for a reduced rate? Doesn't make sense to me.

Simple answer, support the developers. They need money to continue work on their products.
