Windows 10 Post Install

Ever since upgrading to Windows 10, my laptop has woken from sleep every now and then when I'm away from the computer, for no apparent reason. This is a problem I've never experienced before.

I issued the command powercfg –lastwake as detailed at wind8apps, which showed that TeamViewer was the more recent cause. I launched TeamViewer and checked for updates (in case it was a bug with TeamViewer which had been fixed in a more recent release), and there was a new version which I installed. I did some more searching and it was suggested to disable "Allow Wake Timers" as explained at HowToGeek.

This should have fixed the problem, and hopefully will help others with the same issue.

I had Windows Updates waking me up in the middle of the night, hopefully that will be disabled as well.

You don't use a Win7/8 key for Win10. If you're doing the free upgrade, you don't use any key. Ever.

No product key is used with a clean install. You are asked for a key on two occasions. Click Skip on the first occasion and Do This Later on the second.

I noticed the W10 doesn't have Windows Photo Viewer. I found this fix online.

Add this to a .reg file and you will have WPV on right click again.

I just wanted to see how many of you, after installing Windows 10, will stay with it? How many of you uninstalled it already?

For me, it's O.K. Nothing really special. I'll always prefer Windows 7 over anything other OS. I have W10 installed on a partition. I'm kinda sketchy over the whole privacy deal. And how you can't control what updates it will install.

What are your thoughts?

I am currently in the process of restoring one machine back to factory condition using the Recovery Partition and updating Windows. I was glad to see that the Recovery Partition still works and has reinstalled Windows 7. To be clear though, I would never of upgraded this machine to Win10 if I didn't first create image backups. I also have Recovery disks to reinstall Win7 should I need them. I was also glad that Windows remains Activated.

I found that after upgrading to Win10 start, shut down and restarts took much longer than with Win7 and even when Win10 was up and running it didn't feel as snappy as with Win7.

My other machine on the other hand has a brand new SSD with a fresh install of Win10 and is running quite quick so is likely to remain Win10.

Yes, I did a fresh install of W10 on a partition. And after someone helped me out with the update issue, I'm decently happy for now.

Exactly. Do the upgrade once and you'll never need to enter a key to install.
