I have to agree, but mostly because I'm not into AV's, most of them are bloated as hell. I thought about giving Avira another try, but I already know I will not like it, so why bother.

I actually edited out this part from my post as I thought it wasn't needed -> "even when Zemana adds their "on-execution scan" to the product it won't work in real-time the same way a "normal" AV does that monitors everything in real-time." Because it will only scan/kick in at the execution moment, not before, and not after. Unless I miss something here.

Agreed, plus pesky updates and automated scans become less of an issue as well.

"The largest security cloud base all of the world" I never understood how a country with over 1 billion people can't find people that can translate to English correctly.

Last time I tried to download Emsisoft IS, I got Tencent PC Manager's installing package.

Kind of DNS pollution + local ISP's cache server hijacking...

Trialing this AV. Less than 24 hrs w/it. What I am having an issue with right off is that unlike the GUI which is in English and comprehensive, it is a different story with some processes in task manager. It gets even worse with numerous processes requesting to access the internet. Since I can't read Chinese I don't know what I am granting permissions to.

Also unlike Qihoo there is no integrated feedback/email feature in the user interface.

After posting that I also sent an email to Tencent support with similar feedback and was pleasantly surprise to get this reply:

Tencent PC Manager appears on op's computer right after he uninstalls 360 -- silently, without letting the op know.

Maybe someday I should collect such posts and screenshots, and post them here as "Infected-with-AV-software Collection".

Had something similar happen when trying out Ten Cent.I accidentally installed dirty(LOL)Qihoo and Rising AV`s through Chinese installers.Ten Cent was not only shut down but totally removed which would make you wonder about Ten Cents self defense capabilities ?

Maybe there`s some kind of cyber war going on between these companies ?:ninja:

I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time trying to fathom as presented. How does one accidentally download not just (1), but (2) antivirus programs? Ok, I can see the unintended AV addition installing itself, if given the 'Run' option. But then upon installing itself, not only does it shut down the original resident AV but uninstalls it from the system as well without user input? Can someone expand just how that was done?

not necessarily because of cyber war. some years back when i was experimenting with av's, i often see installers warning me about having more than one av in my system. and if i didn't made this up, i might even have seen installer asking me permission to uninstall the other av first. the reason is obvious, av conflict. i've also tried having 2 av's in my pc before and it could slow the pc down to a crawl until i remove one of them in safe mode.

how things work in china might be different. they may not be required to ask permission before uninstalling another conflicting software? just speculating ofcourse....

oh btw, good point about self defence capability of tencent :) i think it should pop up a window asking if you're sure you want to uninstall the av when this happens.

@aztony It's really easy to do. I've had Chinese AV software installed alongside other Chinese software many times before. If the installer for a program is in Chinese and you don't read Chinese you really have no idea what extras are being installed. I usually uncheck everything I can when installing Chinese software, to hopefully prevent any extras from being installed.

I appreciate your reply, roger_m. Ok, I can see language leading to confusion. I've never attempted to download anything not in English, so haven't had that experience. What still has me thrown, however, is how one AV could uninstall another AV without the user's input. I am trial-ing 10cent right now on one of my systems, and inquiring minds definitely want know how it was done.

I see your point. I cannot explain exactly what Eck meant, but I can attest that Eck is a fair player. He has no agenda in this.

    That is all.

And you may encounter such a checkbox: "uncheck this to install Tencent PC Manager". :p

Actually if you install, for example, Tencent PC Manager and ESET AV, on the same machine, they can co-exist by disabling one's HIPS or BB module (yeah you can leave both realtime scanners on). That's a way to cover malwares from both inside and outside the country. However, when it comes to, for example, Tencent PCM and Qihoo 360, things will be different -- they may fight.

Again, I'm talking about chinese version of Tencent and other chinese AVs, not their global version.

coolcfan, thanks for chiming into the discussion. I understand what you say in the above quote. But that's more of an intentional act as opposed to accidental, correct?
I guess what I am trying to understand is this. In the Chinese market, is antivirus software capable of unilaterally uninstalling/expelling a rival program from a PC.
I don't doubt what you say, Frank. I'm just trying to process what was said. That's all!
