Initially I did it the other way to make sure I didn't screw up my licenses. Either way it was painless.

I tested on a Win 10TP VM. It only has two partitions, one for the boot, and the c: drive. I then deleted the volume which makes the drive look like bare metal. Then just restored the image, and it restored both partitions and put the drive back as it was.

How do you get upgrade. I am using the v6 Trial which installed over v5. I see no upgrade prices on their site.

    Any suggestions?

It's right on the front page.

    http://www.macrium.com/upgrade.aspx?type=home

It doesn't work for 4-pack licenses holders. You have to get in touch with support first and they'll set you up.

    SanyaIV,

Just a comment on terminology. "Unallocated" means "no partition". So if you remove (delete) the three partitions on a hard drive you have no partitions. You have 500 GB of unallocated free space.

When you buy a desktop hard drive (or SSD) it usually comes with no partitions. It is entirely unallocated free space. Let's say the label claims is a 2 TB drive. When you install it in your computer Windows Disk Management says it is a 1863.02 GB drive. That's because Windows reports partition and drive sizes in GibiBytes (GiB) and the label on the hard drive is in decimal bytes. All of Windows partition and file sizes are in binary measurements even though you don't see the terms KiB, MiB, GiB.

Matra, that's usually direct support with Macrium (bug, problems, issues, etc.). In the past, updates were always available in the major version no matter the length of time.

If you have a 4 pack license you dont have to contact support just go to this site: http://www.macrium.com/FreeUpgrade.aspx

Enter each license key and they will email you a new license key for v6. To upgrade i just downloaded the home user trial and ran the download agent. In the agent it lets you change from a trial key, just copy and paste the new license macrium sends you and the installer will upgrade your install to v6.

The Reflect Version 6 Buyers Guide will answer a lot of questions that are being asked.

As I mentioned earlier, there is no difference, feature-wise, between the HOME and WORKSTATION version... the only difference is the SUPPORT channels. The BUSINESS channel for the WORKSTATION version is by subscription (after the 1st year) and includes lots of goodies, which most of us probably don't need unless you're using it in a multi-machine business environment.

The HOME support channel includes direct access to their Technical Support Knowledge Base and the Macrium Support Forum, limited to 1-yr and is non-renewable. Updates within the current major version are available to any license holder for the life of the major version (they stop when the next new major version comes out).

    Hope this helps!

Ah, thanks for the correction on the terminology, tried my best with limited knowledge of the specific field. Regarding GiB and GB and how drives are marketed in GB and Windows use GiB but use the GB label(?), that I did know but wasn't exactly what I was asking. What I meant to ask was, lets say you have a drive that is exactly 500GiB (probably won't be exactly that but this is a hypothetical example) but you use exactly 100GiB and the backup is of exactly 100GiB, then lets say that drive breaks and you get a new drive that is exactly 400GiB, will MR v6 be able to restore the backup to the smaller drive? Hope I explained my question clearer now... I'm quite bad at explaining things.

    SanyaIV,

I'm not a current Macrium user so I can't answer your question. But you have explained it very clearly.

Thanks, that was a bit of a shock,,,,fortunately I have a US $ credit card and bank account so have avoided the exchange by paying in US$ (and thanks for the suggestion regarding the coupon whoever made it, much appreciated).

Yes, it can restore to smaller drives. Check here "Restored Partition Properties".
