    Thanks for responding Swex.
The problem with V8 is that they wanted me to pay to use it.
I already have 2 two year licenses.

Perhaps it was just a sort of miscommunication. ESET has always provided newer versions of the purchased product without any additional fee. If you have a valid license for ESET NOD32 Antivirus or ESET Smart Security, you can simply download v8 and install it on top of your current version. Your username and password should be preserved and no further intervention should be required.

That wasn't fun hear. Now I understand why you are a bit frustrated. But as Marcos said, they must have mixed things up. You basically own a license for the product not for a specific version like e.g v6 or v7 so version upgrades are always free of charge for everyone that has a valid license like you do.

You can either install V8 over the top without uninstalling your current version.
Or you can make a fresh install by first uninstalling(you can export your config before uninstalling if you like) and then install v8, and at the end of the install process chose to activate with the Username & Password option and put in your user&pass.

You can download ESS v8 from here: http://www.eset.com/us/download/home/detail/family/5/#offline

    But reading this.....

"I had ess_nt32_enu and had to reinstall it and all I got was
    ESET Smart Security 8."

I am not sure if you already have installed V8 or not, but if you already have installed v8 but have not activated it then right click on your ESET tray icon "e" and chose "activate your product..." and the option to activate by inserting your Username and Password. If you haven't installed V8 then see above.

    Good luck :thumb:

Weird. Eset always seems to be in the top 1-3 AV's in AV-comparatives performance test. I haven't used it since v5 I think, but was thinking of switching back to it partly to see if it's any lighter on the system than KAV.

I have used Eset on my systems for nearly 3 years and has been flawless. the thing I like about Eset is that they do not release a new version unless they feel it is needed. I see the update notification in the corner and the occasional website blocked but I haven't seen any slowdown from it.
