I used the program for years and was satisfied .It is still not supporting every browser. And when ie 12 is coming it is still not supported.I switched to Adguard. The latest version is low on recourses.
Now there is a so called ,,new" version still IE11 is not supported .
When you sent a mail about that issue You get the answer that Microsoft,s browser is the problem. And still not working on https!
There are a lot of free software developers who take their costumers more serious!

The install ini. is missing from the *free exe* Install the pay for version and then re-install the free version over it.

Not only that, they can't even release a proper installer for the new free one.

I moved on to uBlock or Adguard, depending on the situation, and don't think I will look back.

I think to be fair it is non-public and probably meant for testing by those that have a working ad muncher installed and allow beta updates checked....I tried it out of curiosity and removed it....I've grown to love and prefer AdGuard and will stick to that.

Well, why would they need to test it? It is pretty much the same 4.92 that has been out for years. If they have the paid version, why bother testing the free one? It still does not support IE 11, which has been out for a year already, does not support Https..the shortcomings are still there in both the free and paid. Also, if it were non-public, Jeffery would not have provided a link to it on the previous page in the middle of a public forum. I do not see this guy working all that hard to fix the free version when he cannot even get the new paid version released after years of promises.

Date of Changelog says it all: July 2012.
This software has been in limbo now for far too many years.

I don't trust this developer after stealing my money, then making the app free! and worse of all, 2 years and it's still broken. AdGuard FTW

Look at the software AdGuard by a team of Russians. It is comprehensive and excellent with nothing left to chance. They have a excellent knowledge base and support.

Yet they still collect money for admuncher apparently?

It's taken them months to release a minor code change beta to facilitate it going free. That tells you the progress of v5. Only by this program going opensource, or being handed to different developers with a name change will it likely survive. Too many of us have been burned by them. Adguard is the way to go now, it's what v5 should have been.

Admuncher Free Final is out - http://www.admuncher.com/download for those of you that choose to use it. It's the same as previous release, just free now. Still waiting for v5 for IE11 and https support.

I use AdGuard on my surface because IE is the only true touch screen supported browser. Both are great, but I still prefer Admuncher, so whenever v5 comes out, I'll switch back to AM on the tablet.

I use AdGuard now but use to use Ad Muncher and am glad to see it go freeware. I'd still be using it if it filtered SSL and supported IE11 since it is so lightweight and seamless (doesn't require a reboot to install some kernel driver like so much software of this nature does). It also didn't impact performance on my 50mbit connection at all. It's a rock solid stable software.

Thank you Murray for making it free, I will definitely try v5 when it comes out in the future.

I will recommend it to people to use in addition to a good browser extension since Ad Muncher blocks ads in all software that uses the HTTP protocol to download ads.

Just tested it on my test workstation that has Windows 10 and it even uses the new toast notification feature: http://i.imgur.com/TIwVPBD.png

What's the point of Admuncher? 10 years ago it probably was amazing, but right now it just seems to miss ads, not filter HTTPS, and at times break pages.

    I ran benchmarks all morning.
    Adblock
    Admuncher
    Adguard
    then combinations of Adblock+Admuncher, etc.

In the end, Admuncher is 'slightly' faster at filtering than Adguard, but it isn't as thorough in doing it, often leaving imbeded ads, and or HTTPS pushed ads in pages, and of course not even filtering Facebook, Youtube, and Google. I tested it on dozens of pages, and found that 'in general' it can filter between 2-5% faster than Adguard. So a 0.81 page under Admuncher, can take 0.85 under Adguard. Is that worth giving up Adguard's extensive Malware Protection, HTTPS, and GZIP support? Hardly. Combinations of Admuncher+Adblock seemed to work faster at times, but on some pages it seemed to break things.

So at this point I would very nearly classify Admuncher as being useless. Free or otherwise, it really serves no purpose any longer.

The free & low on resources is "useless" for you........

For RAM - usage and price? ........ radio silence........

    PS.
    I Know:
Memory usage can be lowered to about 60 MB with disabling of the GUI.
We'll try to lower it in 6.X branch, but currently it's not top priority.
Release notes: Adguard for Windows version 5.10.1167 of 03 October 2014

    So.. You are linking 1-2 year old posts on Adguard as your source? I assume you are purposely neglecting the dozens, if not hundreds of revisions of Adguard since then? Let's update you;

Adguard 6.10 takes between 18MB-30MB of ram. I have 16GB of Ram, the lowest machine in this house has 8GB. Why is ram even discussed anymore? Price? Join the Adguard Beta, and it's free for 3 years. Now let's talk about what matters; Admuncher misses a lot. Not only does it consistently miss embedded ads, it misses encrypted ads, and it doesn't filter https pages at all. Admuncher flat out breaks some pages, and doesn't support GZIP in any form. Admuncher acts like Internet Explorer 11 doesn't even exist, and IE 12 is a mere few months away, and we can assume it won't even know IE12 exists. Admuncher doesn't know MetroApps exist, because it was written in the 1990s.

So again, what's the point of Admuncher going free when it's almost pointless to run it? Admuncher is just... Bad.

Again.. Why is memory being discussed? 18-30MB right now, consistently in that range, out of.... 16GB. Never was there a more pointless discussion.

    Back to Admuncher. It's bad.
