Engaging sandbox, as suggested two posts down by Gobbler.

that's odd because for me, using NoScript and Sandboxie like you do is "nonsense".

why is it "nonsense" for me?
because those apps stress me out.
i don't feel "Zen like" when using those apps.
one should use what one is comfortable with.

though i wouldn't mistake my way of things as "common sense"...

Ok that's confusing. Guess Gobbler's post got deleted but mine didn't. Anyway, he suggested dealing with noxious elements by using a sandbox policy.

    1. Surely Sandboxie - Ultra light - fast, ultra secure, practical and easy to use.
    2. Prevx - Fast, small and light, strong realtime scanner, didn't find conflicts.
    3. GesWall

*Shadow Defender is good, but needs lots of exclusions to make it practical for everyday use.

*ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE never let me down for simple image backup and restore.

*HIPS - many conflicts with system and apps.( Online Armor, Comodo...no matter)

*Classical AV slows down the system, more or less, and not too strong on 0 days malware.

With the many ways Sandboxie can be set-up (and the fact that there are uses for it besides security), I like it just as much as AppLocker.

i solved that problem (for my liking anyway) by running portable apps (as much as possible), and putting a download/save folder on a different drive than my OS.
that drive never goes in "shadow mode".

this way i don't even need to use exclusions.
when i want something to "stick" ( Windows updates, software install etc) i do it in non shadowed mode.

this works perfect for my need.

I'd give 1 *favourite* for each category...

    Limiting rights: LUA (SuRun)
    Denying initial execution: SRP
    Hardening tool: EMET

    Real-time desktop AV:
    Avira - my 1st love.
    Avast - my current scandal

    Real-time cloud-based AV: Panda Cloud
    On-demand scanner: Hitman Pro

    Classical HIPS: Comodo Defense+
    Policy-based HIPS: DefenseWall
    Behavior Blocker: Mamutu
    Anti-keylogger with HIPS: SpyShelter
    'Light HIPS': WinPatrol

    Application sandbox: Sandboxie
    Light virtualization: Shadow Defender
ISR: Eaz-Fix (Comodo Time Machine not as stable yet)

    Firewall: Have not decided yet
Imaging: Haven't played with much yet since I don't have an external drive.
