I'm not sure if this is the right forum and if it isnt, I'm sorry, I didnt know where to put this.

Whenever i try to use windows update, it comes up with the error:
    Windows Update Error

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

    The error number is 0x800A138F.

I went to the troubleshooter and saw the resolutions.
1... I in fact did have an internet acceleration software installed so i uninstalled it and tried again to no avail.
2... My language list has two languages so that's not the problem.
3... My system time is correct, so strike that suggestion.
4... I unchecked the thing they asked, but that did not help.
5... I dont use MSN Messenger and still, my messenger is updated.

Therefore, I'm completely lost, so if anyone knows how to solve this issue, please help. Thanks in advance

I run a Windows XP System with a Dell 4550 with 2.58 GHz computer with 256 MB RAM.
I have SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard installed in addition to both Ad-aware and Spybot. Maybe a conflict between those programs caused the error? Thanks again in advance.

Hi Metaldemon, Windows update requires Active X to be working and it is best to add widows update site to your trusted sites as the updater needs quite loose security settings for it to work.

    Only guessing. Pilli :)

    Hi snowbound :)
What happens is that it starts searching for updates then quickly goes to 100% and then shows Windows Update Error. I checked the error number and then looked for resolutions in the troubleshooting but all those resolutions did not help me or did not apply to me.

Well... it helped in the sense that i again am resorting to using manual downloading. I have this suspicion that sum kind of firewall is inhibiting me from correctly downloading updates

I wish i could tell u why this was happening.

IMHO i don't think it is a firewall problem but......

Something is stopping u from doing automatic updates and i can't figure out what it could be :doubt:.

Hopefully someone else will post with a solution.

    One more question.

Do u have a problem auto updating ALL of your programs with this option?

If I didn't know any better I would blame it on the dwarves. ;)
But in any case, thanks for your help, although the mystery may not have been solved, I can at least do thing manually now.

I too had errors with Windows Update. Disableing FIPS corrected the problem. However I don't believe that this is much of a solution.

Thanks but i solved the problem.. rather people helped me solve it in another topic. It was NIS 2002 that was causing the problems. Thanks anyway :)

edit: It was because i installed NAV 2003 over NIS 2002 and this caused conflicts. NOw everything is fine. THanks again.
