    Hello everyone, I'm new in the forum so If I'm in the wrong place please be kind and direct me to the right place.

    Here's the problem: Somewhere at some point and time something went wrong with copying music to a CD. I use to be able to do it but now it gives me an error message "Windows Media Player cannot copy files to the recordable disc." It's the same disc I've been using for several years. I want to complete take out all of windows media player and reinstall the same series 9. How can I do it! I've tried all the other methods microsoft suggested, I even went back to a system restore. Nothing worked.

    When I tried to open a music file I had downloaded it gave me a license.exe something or other, I think. Anyway, I deleted it. Please tell me that wasn't already there and that's why I'm having this problem. If it is, can I fix it?

    After I loaded LG lightscribe that came with nero 7 essentials with InCD. When I removed it things seem to have gone downhill from there.

    Everytime I remove control-add/remove it pops right back up with the same settings I changed to try to make it work. I have even tried recovering it through the recovery application tool, the same thing. What can I do?

    Can someone help me with this problem?

    I seen something about

    PS: I read a thread about KM Player, does it copy my music to a cd? Can it take the place of media play 9?

    I am soooooooooooo lost at this point and Microsoft help & support doesn't help unless you are a scholar and know exactly what you are talking about.

    Please feel free to email me if you like @ jae422 [at] sbcglobal.net

    You might wanna try CDex for ripping and Burrn for .. well burning :)

    If you want a more complete package (but still free), CDBurnerXP is a good choice.

    Welcome to the forum's Jaegirl!

    Too busy atm Brian but I presume, she'll be needing help with those upper, lower filter's in the registry.
    Please copy and paste the following into your runbox (should it be xp you're on).

    regedit /e %systemdrive%\filters.txt hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Runbox again; simply a backslash > ok. Now find this filters.txt and post it's content's with your reply.

    *For other's to reference, the exact error code:
    Are you able to reinstall should it come to that (yes, I have the disk)? Confirm your operating system. Confirm there's enough space available on the drive (rt clk my computer, properties). You've stated trying various method's. Is the one described here for removing wmp9 one of them?

    WMP in typical MS fashion is user unfriendly-the programmers seem to live in a separate universe.

    However if you are used to it,why not just upgrade to version 11,which should fix all your problems-keep it simple!

    I did but it had the same problem as windows 9 series. Even though I've tried several disc (that I use to use before something happened). I had to load service pack 2 to install WMP 11. So, since it didn't work I uninstalled service pack 2 and windows 11. I can find my WINNIT.inf could that be the problem you think? Even so, I can't find windows 9 series to try to download it again and try to install WINNIT.inf. I think I'm going to have to take it somewhere to do a full system recovery from the disc. I just didn't want to loose programs that I can't get back.

    This disk you speak of .... the one that came with your pc package? Is there more than just the os included? *You can check by loading it, exiting the window's setup screen, then opening my computer, rt clking and selecting "explore."

    Would I be correct to deduce the os is currently sp1?

    To add, it would be prudent to follow your own suggestion of taking it somewhere should you not have the time nor the patience to sort this yourself, and with willing help from the online community.

    Good Morning, Yes I'm still using SP1. and the disc I was speaking of were the recovery disc 1-7. I don't know which one windows media is on thats why I said I will have to do a full system recovery. I have the original DVD X copy and it won't work with SP2. But once I have to take it off, it's gone forever. That's why I wanted to try all my options before making such a drastic move. :'(

    Thanks you're very sweet.

    Morning "Happy New Year's" by the time you find this Jaegirl,

    Please clarify a few item's here jg. You're reference was to a now defunct 321 studios version of this software, correct? Does it, unlike wmp work with your existing drive? Feeling confident? Good! Kindly forward detail's about your pc, exact make and model. Thank's. *Need help retrieving the information? Simply ask.

    ========================

    "After I loaded LG lightscribe that came with nero 7 essentials with InCD. When I removed it things seem to have gone downhill from there."

    When you uninstalled (I'm guessing add/remove), do you recall running any of these utilities afterward's?

    ========================

    "Everytime I remove control-add/remove it pops right back up with the same settings I changed to try to make it work. I have even tried recovering it through the recovery application tool, the same thing. What can I do?"

    Are you speaking of Nero, or a particular component that was available during the lightscribe install? *Perhap's in addition you'll comment on the order. Sp2 - Nero? Or, vice-versa? If sp2 was first, was that when you noticed file's could no longer be copied? When sp2 was removed, was it one of the first three here? Go ahead and rt clk your drive in my computer, then properties. What's the available free space?

    drvspc.gif

    *By the (v8 knock), this tool would have quickly displayed those filter item's in readable form. ;)
    Forget this for the time being though, I would prefer you address everything above the ss.

    PS - Take you're time. Try to answer all question's as best you can.

    If you want to keep it simple-suggest that you download KM Player-superior to WMP in my opinion and has similar functions,except there is no burning option.

    Then either use Nero or something simple like Infrarecorder,or the one Brian mentioned, to burn the Cds from your music archive to disk-also superior burning to WMP.

    The problems you have, sound like the type which could be difficult to solve except by changing players.

    All freeware!

    edit-or you could try a Windows repair from your Windows CD-also unreliable,but an idea if you have lost an important Microsoft file- Winnt?
