I just put together a new PC running Windows 7 64-bit and bought a copy of NOD32 for it. I have one legacy application that I have to run using Virtual PC in Windows XP Mode which wants its own antivirus software. Given that it's physically one machine but virtually two, would I need to buy another copy of NOD32 for the virtual machine?

You would need to buy another copy of NOD32. I asked Eset UK tech support the same thing. I would just install microsoft Security essentials on the XP virtual machine.
