    Hi Brian,

I found by holding Shift on the login screen and clicking Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command prompt and running CHKDSK /F from there I got a message saying the drive was write protected. I don't know how that happened but I've had a couple of weird things happen on that machine lately, including Norton detecting a Keylogger in it's own files, so I'm going to nuke Windows, format the drive and do a fresh clean Win10 install.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Dave,

As an experiment prior to your nuking... can you run a Win10 upgrade to your Win10? From a UFD. I'm doing one at present on my test computer and in the past this method has fixed strange issues.

A bit late I'm afraid, sorry.

After installing Win10 I tried again and the same thing happened, so how to I disable Write Protection? I tried prior to the nuking by going to Properties and on the Security tab changing my account permissions but that didn't help.

    @Krusty13 Try adding the /x paramter, i.e. chkdsk/f/x

The SSD can't be Write Protected otherwise you wouldn't have been able to install an OS. Sounds like a chkdsk quirk. Try /x as Roger suggested.

Tried /X but that didn't make any difference.

    Thanks @Brian K and @roger_m .

I was having some issues after the Win10 installation with installing some of my programs so I took another drastic step. I removed the SSD from that machine and with a short USB lead that came with one of my external HDDs I connected the SSD to my other machine and formatted the drive. After that I reinstalled Win10 again and before I did anything ran chkdsk. This time the countdown continued and chkdsk successfully ran.

    Phew!!

Oh the joys of installing and configuring all my programs again now. I might need a Tooheys or two later. :D

    Cheers!

    Dave,

Out of interest, did you format the OS partition or did you delete the OS partition, then create and format a new partition?

The first time I tried formatting the OS partition using the ISO DVD but when I still had trouble I formatted the whole drive using my other machine. When I reinstalled Win10 I deleted the Reserved partition, which was the only one showing on install, then created a new OS partition.

OK. So you have a System Reserved Partition on your SSD now?

Never10 1.2 has just been released. It is another program to block the Windows 10 upgrade.

    Roger,

Perhaps these programs could be posted in a thread of their own as they aren't really related to Win10 issues exactly.

@Krusty13 That makes sense, I'll do that for future updates.

Downloading the full Office product on W10 - a user's experience and some further comments by another user makes you wonder why MS is doing it this way. I do not use Office, so I cannot confirm any of this.

"... the problem was because I was attempting to download Office using Firefox. The rep informed me that you now must use IE or Edge, and you must have selected “Use Preferred Settings” rather than preventing the browser from sending unwanted personal information…otherwise you can’t install Office... "

"When you have many business clients, you have to create many live accounts to tie their Office purchases together, and there is absolutely no way to easily track which Office product key goes to which computer, and the key you use to do the initial installation isn’t your product key..."

I have noticed by chance (as I use Opera primarily) the Edge browser doesn't work (doesn't load any websites) in my office while it works on any other network outside office. We checked it with our IT and we can rule out it is caused by Firewall, ESET Endpoint solution or company's network rules. It's kinda mystery. Any advice?

Hi pegas. Did you make sure the proxy settings haven't been altered?
