Thanks. Delete everything in this folder... C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download Right click the C: drive icon, Properties. Disk Clean-up, put a tick in all boxes and then click Clean up system files. Put a tick in all boxes. OK. Answer Yes when asked about deleting files. I know you have an image if you want to go back to the previous OS. How much Free Space did you gain after you finished the above?
Hi Brian I did it , but i still have c:\Windows.old\ with these folders C:\Windows.old\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository asmbsw.inf_amd64_5f6fc21717202d29 nettap60.inf_amd64_bec9f85489d74657 -> it includes nettap630.sys and C:\Windows.old\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\UMDF -> empty about the space before used 44.3GB , afeter used 32.8 (11GB) should i delete it in safe mode ? thanks
I think it might depend on System type or Windows flavour...Home - Pro etc, I'm cleaning up a Microsoft Surface at the moment and it's the only system I've come across so far that wont completely remove the Windows old folder, even in Safe mode, there's only a few mb left in it so not too concerned though it's got me baffled.
mantra, That's a good result. I deleted the leftover Windows.old with TeraByte Explorer, offline. You own TeraByte Explorer.
Disk Cleanup (Clean up system files) can take care of Windows.old, via "Previous Windows installation(s)".
J_L, That's correct but in many cases it leaves the Windows.old folder with a MB or two of data. That's what mantra has.
The remaining .sys driver files generally have to be deleted in Safe Mode - Command Prompt. That is the way that I've had to do it a few dozen times now.
hi what i do i hate about w10 , is that i can't boot safemode with uefi and ssd ! i need always to boot w10 ,and use msconfig to boot in safemode ,it's insane thanks
Yes you can, you just need to enable it and then you can use F8 at boot to give you the option to enter Safe Mode again. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/enable-f8-key-safe-mode-in-windows-8-10.381143/
I was offered AU on my primary laptop, but hid it with wushowhide. It has subsequently disappered from the hidden updates list, and I have not been offered it again. Strangely, this is on my newest laptop (less than 2 years old). Three older machines (5 - 6 years old) have all updated already.
hi does somebody disable some services ? and does sobody notice more slow programs loading compared to w10 before the anniversary update? and is there a list of the new shortcuts like like windows+w? thanks
Well, I always disable everything, I keep only the bare minimum, to let 10 breathing just to keep it barely alive/working.
Well but it cannot be generalized because foremost the usage of PC has to be taken into account. For instance I'm using my laptop on the company network, working files on the intranet etc. So I need a lot of network services up and running.
Of course, I could still disable half of my running services, but that would introduce some issues for me. It always depends on user's needs. Trial and error. I have created Light Tweaks for my mom, to keep things like Notification Center/Store, working but it still disables Win defender, it is a major problem causer.
I've seen a recommendation on Wilders for Easy Service Optimizer (based on Black Viper's tweaks) but haven't tried it myself yet.
Windows 10 Anniversary Update is really a bug parade , even photoshop cc 2015.5 doesn't work perfectly but is there a way to restore an image prior anniversary update and stop it , don't update it thanks
I noticed a few unsavory bugs when I first clean installed 1607, but once I got it updated and rebooted a few times, it seems pretty good actually. But I still have mixed feelings about it. I thought 1511 was awfully buggy too. 1607 actually seems cleaner on my machine once you get it going.
