    Win7 x64 Pro, RTM.

Paragon Drive Back Up 9.0 Pro

    A couple of observations:

    a) in the main application form: Clicking on the help tab works OK. Help shows up and works. Clicking any other tab AFTER that, crashes app.

    b) On a clean re-boot, can schedule one job/task successfully via cyclic back-up wizard. Upon attempting to schedule a SECOND task, upon clicking "finish" in the wizard, an error message box appears indicating that job can't be scheduled.

A fresh re-boot fixes that issue and allows me to schedule another one.... (lol)

I attempted to pluck event logs for this/these issues, and they are as follows:

I don't know what's causing that - did you try running the .msi installer again and choose Repair ?

Otherwise, full uninstall and reinstall of Paragon may do the trick.

    Hope it helps.

The first time I experienced that, I did just what you indicate.

I uninstalled, rebooted, and did a fresh install. Same behavior.

    Seems to be a Win7 related glitchy.......dunno......o_O

Now I didn't do a repair, I just punted and started over to make sure I ddin't unintentionally hose the install.

I could try a repair on my present install later today... but I have a suspicion that it's "nature of the beast" right now.

Can you confirm if it's the latest build of DB 9 (SP2)? Log into your account and the latest build should be available. I know there are known issues with Win7 and previous builds of DB 9

Also try installing through control panel add/remove programs.

Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Professional Edition (English)

    License no 1
    License type Single License
    Registration date 20-10-2009
    Buy date 20-10-2009

    Build 9.0.9.10081_000

I'll double check when I get home as well.

    Downloaded yesterday around 6:30PM EST

    Is that the latest?

Will do...I'll give that a shot as well and report back.

EDIT: Interesting.....just re-read my task manager post above, and see: 9.0.9.10081 in the event log transcript. ...... would seem to indicate the latest build, no?

    OK.... Help --> About indicates:

    Drive Backup™, version 9.0, build 8681 (29.07.09 )Professional

The file name I installed is named:

    Paragon-111-PRE_WinInstallx64_9.0.9.10081_000

I will uninstall, DL the latest and install it via add/remove programs and see if that makes some of the quirks go away...o_O

OK... downloaded the latest available update from the paragon site,

    file name is: Paragon-111-PRE_WinInstallx64_9.0.9.10081_000

(same as the one received when purchased yesterday...)

Help About from the freshly installed program with the NEW download:

    Drive Backup™, version 9.0, build 8681 (29.07.09 )Professional

    Components versions:

Paragon Base Services Library, version 1.1, build 8681 (29.07.09 )
    hdm.dll, version 9.0, release 9, build 10081
    biont.dll, version 9.0, release 9, build 10081
    biont.sys, version 9.0, release 9, build 10081

Still seeing the same issues reported above....

crashes tabbing out of help functionality and crash after first task scheduled, recoverable via re-boot.

    Any input is appreciated.

I've seen crashes happening when there are media card readers attached, or any offline devices still plugged in, ie offline drives, memory card readers; basically anything that can show up on disk management as a device. We can isolate out as many hard drives as possible and only focus on the one that needs to be backed-up. So before launching DB 9, try to disconnect devices that won't be in used, or if the device can not be disconnected like an internal memory reader on your tower, disable the device in Device Manager.

So when changing tabs or going to different parts of the program, the launcher.exe crashes?

Interesting to check the Event Viewer. Right-click Computer > Manage > select "Event Viewer" and Application.

Ahhh, the plot thickens. I DO have a media card reader (USB) as well as a USB external HD. I can pull the plug on those and give it a shot and see what happens....

Yes..... as well as on an attempted SECOND task schedule.

Disconnect or disable all media card readers and external hard drive and see if that cease the crashes.

    Disconnected (physically) media card reader....

    Disconnected (physically) External HDD...

The crash from tabbing between Disk VIew, Scheduled Tasks, Help, etc. seems to have resolved itself.

HOWEVER, upon trying to schedule a cyclic backup (as a test), got the following with NO accompanying EventViewer entry:

    Paragon1.jpg

    PAragon2.jpg

same as what I was seeing before. Thus, the TABBING error is what gets dumped into the event viewer, it seems.

NOTE: This was the FIRST attempt at scheduling a cyclic backup after opening DB.....(if that helps/matters). Definately seems to be a small fly in the soup here.

    Hello GrumpyAeroGuy,

Can you check if the scheduled task was created? Also, check your task scheduler services, stop and start.

One of my other techs mentioned about the account control in Win7. Disable that feature.

We have a 64bit box here with Win 7 and the schedule task completed fine. Do you know if the same error occurs with the other types of backup? Simply schedule a backup for one partition, daily; I'm curious to see if it's just the cyclic task, or if there's a conflict with Paragon and Windows 7 Task Scheduler.

I'll check for you, but, after trying to open the package, I am now seeing this:

    paragon5.jpg

    paragon4.jpg

This is even after a repair install. I am uninstalling and trying to install fresh now.o_O

    Something is definitely forked up.

OK, on fresh install, made a scheduled backup as suggested. All worked well. I even went thru twice, deleting the first task, to see if the "crash of second task schedule" thing happens, and it does not.

After additional experimentation, it appears that the crash on scheduling is isolated to cyclical backups only....

    Another thought...

I have Hard Disk Manager and Disk Backup installed together. Could that be causing a collision?

    Hi,

Do you mean Hard Disk Manager and Drive Backup?

I don't think so - I have had several Paragon apps. installed without any conflict - though I don't use the cyclical backups.

Strange if it would only only affect that aspect.

Did you try running SFC - I have no logical explanation as to why that may help - but it's worth a go.

Yep, sorry. Hard Disk Manager and Drive Backup.

I dunno, just running out of ideas on what it could be. It does appear to be related to cyclic backups only.

SFC? (sorry can't figger that one out..) :)

System File Check - you never know, it's worth a run

    Command:

    sfc /scannow

Scans integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible.

    ahhh, nope haven't done that

I did do a clean install of drive back-up. I suspect this is a glitch in the software of some sort....

I am sure they will chime in here at some point.

There shouldn't be any problems with multiple Paragon programs installed, I myself have over 20 installed :D

I'll contact our developers team to look into this issue. For now it looks like it's an isolated issue since we can't replicate it on our side (Win 7 32/64, RC, RTM).
