Well it depends on your connection and the server. It may not be noticeable on dialup but on broadband, for example, you can have several slow connections that add up (like 3 segments running at 40 kbps for a total of 120 kbps).

Usually I average at least 520 kbps, there are servers that are slow. Other wise it would be higher.

i never had a problem with FDM. its simple and effective of all the downloaders i have used.
as far as orbit downloader, my antivirus detected a adware in that, and it often crashed my browser many times.

if you want to download embedded videos on websites then you can get addons
which can download videos. firefox has many addons like that.one is downloadhelper which i use, it can download any media either images or videos.

I tried LeachGet when I had dial up and for whatever reason just continued using it now that I have DSL. The program is very simple and believe me when I say the simpler the program for me the better off I am. As for as the best download manger I guess the answer would be whichever one you feel the most comfortable with.

Orbit Downloader......Its really very nice compared to anything else I've seen. A close second for me is LeechGet, it just works, is fast and simple. :)

I do miss the ability to pause the download, when you have a scheduled scan or scheduled computer mantance. I've been to the Orbit website, I must say it looks good.

I totally agree. With broadband I doubt the necessity of DL Mgrs.
I'm too cheap. Dialup <$5/mo. (practically free).
    DSL not available here.
Cable is available, but I hate my cable company.
    Satellite cost prohibitive.
Suppose I'll break down soon and part with some $ for one of them.

I agree, what gets me is that it was my own ISP that would interrupt my connection!

The point of using a DM is that it does actually speed up downloads by making multiple connections. With Orbit, you can also download other media which is very useful.

I used DAP in the past but nowadays I go with Firefox Download Manager :)

  20. As far as I'm concerned, the best is the one built into Firefox. ;)
