Apparently, there are some misconceptions on this thread. So, let me be the annoying guy and point them out: Near every Antivirus claims to catch all kinds of malware, so why don't you, CiX, consider them enough Antimalwares to be added to the poll? After all, they are probably even more Antimalwares than most of the poll options, which mainly consist of Antispywares that clearly advise about their inability to detect virus (example: Spybot S&D). Of course I saw exceptions, like Spyware Doctor, that offer this kind of detection if you install a separate addon. But the main question is: isn't a virus a kind of malware? Malwarebytes Antimalware (MBAM), another option added to the poll, claims to "find malware that other Antivirus and Antispyware programs generally miss", as in its developers words, but MBAM doesn't find all malwares and, because of that, its developers still recommend the use of a separate Antivirus. Yet, why you consider MBAM to be "more Antimalware" than an Antivirus? Because by inserting MBAM to the poll and not adding any Antivirus, you clearly show to think that way. Isn't the "AM" of the "MBAM" brand influencing you? ....................... Now, about the thread's question: My installed AV is Microsoft Security Essentials. I also do on-demand scans with: - MBAM and; - Kaspersky AVP Tool - the Kaspersky complete standalone malware scanner. Because I rarely use MBAM, I don't maintain it installed. The same goes to Kaspersky AVP Tool + it needs to be downloaded every time there's an update.
On my computers and at the office I don't use any separate anti-malware tool such as the ones mentioned . Windows Firewall and NAV or SEP are enough. I voted MBAM , Windows Defender (WD) and Other because I often use them to clean infected computers when I visit clients. Windows Defender in XP/Vista is really good defender/protector.
I've tried a few anti-malware programs. All I have now is Windows Defender, SUPERAntiSpyware (on demand) & SpywareBlaster.
Comodo Firewall Pro for my firewall. AVG9 for my AV, ASpyW, Link Scanner, Email Scanner, ResidentShield and SpywareBlaster as a trip-wire. MBAM, A-Square AM, A-Square HighJack Free, Comodo System Cleaner, Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool as ad-lib regular manual sweepers. CCleaner, Auslogics Defrag, Piriform Defrag for daily housekeeping. Sysinternals Process Explorer to partner Windows Task Manager. I have tried most other AV and miscellaneous security programs in my time.
I ticked SAS and other since I have KeyScrambler, spyware blaster and Nod32. The line between SW and V is blurring big time now and my other(s) all catch or prevent SW.
Voted none. MSE in real time, nothing else. But since I get the feeling you're looking for "cleaner" votes, I didn't vote other. On my USB stick I have hitman & MBAM for taking to PC's I don't own.
I use Only On-Demand: - MBAM - Emsisoft Anti-Malware - Hitman Pro and - F-Secure Easy Clean
Have what you like as AV and anti-malware security, it all helps, but Sandboxie is about the best protection you can get. John B I have :- On line Comodo Firewall Pro SpywareBlaster AVG9 Sandboxie Off line MBAM A-Squared Anti-malware A-Squared HighJackfree MS Malicious software removal tool Comodo system cleaner and a few more goodies.
MBAM and SAS, thanks to this forum. Soon I will be venturing into the world of Sandboxie - soon as I learn a little more. Love this site, thanks
Look at the "Sandboxie" thread on this Forum plus other older Sandbxie threads - it is all there in abundance supplying everything you need. Easy route - just forget the reading and download Sandboxie, you will never regret it. I have used the free issue for 2 months now without a single hitch and it provides me with as secure browser I could ever hope for. I put up with the Nagware panel. John B
