** DefenseWall v3 as HIPS/FW focussing at threat gates and downloads :thumb:
    - using Ie8 for "Safe banking/shopping mode" of DW

    family laptop (old xp sp3 - wi-fi) :

    Avira premium
    Pctools firewall plus
    Win Patrol plus

    daughter 1 (old desktop xp sp3 - wi-fi) :

    Avira premium
    Pctools firewall plus
    Win Patrol plus

family's old desktop (xp sp3 - wi-fi) (on reserve if necessary)

    Microsoft Essential Security
    Ghostwall
    Win Patrol plus

    daughter 2 recent laptop (vista sp2 - wi-fi) :

    KIS 2010
    Win Patrol plus

    main family recent desktop - powerfull ( core quad ... vista sp2 - internet cable 30 mb/sec)

    KIS 2010
    Win Patrol plus

    daughter's 3 very old laptop (xp sp3 - wi-fi) :

AVG anti virus after license expiration : Microsoft Essential Security
    Ghostwall
    Win Patrol plus
    Spyware stopper

    daughter 3 recent laptop (vista sp2 - wi-fi) :

    KIS 2010
    Win Patrol plus

All fully patched + spywareblaster enable and malwarebyte's on demand.
    All together on home network.

Why ghostwall: incredibly light and a little bit better than xp firewall.
Why Avira : light, reactive and cheap.
Why pctools firewall plus : light and powerfull.
Why KIS : heavy on old computers but very powerfull with recent ones.
Why WinPatrol plus : incredibly light and very practice to use.

Every month "true image" full backup on each computer - all the hard disk are build with two partitions and the desktops have got two hard disks for redundant backups.

I hope the daughter's use of internet is'nt too dangerous, but I think the family's computers are well protected.

Hardware router linksys with firewall on.
Browser = firefox - email filtering : poptray with rules.

    That's all folks.

    Best regards from France, Vonvon

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (UAC set to default, LUA)
D-Link Router (NAT/SPI firewall, WPA encryption)
    ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.0 (real-time)
    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (paid, on-demand)
Firefox 3.5.4 (Adblock Plus, forced to run sandboxed)
    Sandboxie 3.40 (paid)

Thought about it and decided to ditch a software FW/HIPS entirely. The HIPS portion at least seemed redundant with UAC.

Switched from Dr.Web to avast after using it for 2 years. I have drw license for 2011 but can't use it because of serious ntfs errors. My HD isn't broken, the system is not infected and have no other security programs running. I have only tried some firewall software but uninstalled them.

I get error messages from windows during Dr.Web full scan that some files and/or drives are corrupted. Reinstalling the OS helps for some time but the problem re-appears. I don't understand what causes this and apparently people at dr.web don't understand either.

Being trouble free was one of the reasons why I had Dr.Web :doubt:

    Currently avast+windows firewall it is.
