Comodo FW will turn off Windows Firewall by default,
so he is running only 1 software firewall at the moment ;)

It's in lockdown mode and makes quite a strong layer to the setup. It's simple and easy to use. I'm gonna keep it.:):thumb:

How do you like it? Been thinking of getting one.

    Thanks.

    As for my setup

    NAT Router
    ESS
    WSA
    DynDNS

I also use different AV's on some of my other machines. Some have Avast, Avira, Bitdefender depending on the machine and setup. I used to go really crazy locking things down but this is how I've been going for awhile. No issues or problems to report.

Hey Trooper - it's great for surfing and cheap as chips, doesn't fully replace a PC.

Normally that'd be true, but I have a Group Policy tweak that prevents Comodo (or anything) from disabling my Windows FW. I've actually posted the tweak in the other firewalls section and got some good feedback.

So my Windows FW remains on, along with Comodo FW. And yes, they play just fine together. In fact I'm pretty sure the XP FW will play fine with any 3'rd party FW. Not sure if the same can be said about the Vista/7/8 FW's, but I'd guess that if you're using it for inbound only, it'd be fine. It's integrated/1'st party, and part of the OS. Very little chance of conflicts. Conventional logic is to only run 1 FW, but really I'd add the caveat only 1 ("3'rd party software") FW at a time... routers/hardware FW's, and the integrated Win FW's excluded.

Besides, if you want to get technical, I have 3 firewalls, counting my router. They all work in perfect harmony together.

As much of a tweaker/hardener I am, I do not disable the XP FW or the WF/ICS service associated with it. It could save me a little bit of juice. But I once heard from someone that knows more about this stuff than I that it's not a good idea to disable that service, even if you use another FW. So I listen to him, and it makes me feel better. That, and seeing that little padlock symbol over my LAN and the word "firewalled", provides an added placebo (if nothing else).

Back to the drawing board for desktop: Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bits)

    OS security
FW: Windows 7 internal also blocks outbound traffic
ACL: Deny 'traverse folder/execute' file for Everyone on subfolders of data partition (also containing download, email and media folders)
SRP: Set default run as Basic user for all files and users except administrators
EMET: all user applications (office, DVD, PDF, browser, WMP)
UAC: deny elevation of unsigned programs

    Realtime
Free browser ExploitShield and KAV 2012 (behavioral blocker & download check) to support Chrome's sandbox (no-referrer, click to play flash plug-in). Running Chrome incognito with javascript allow for HTTP\\* and .COM plus .NL domains, blocking all others. With incognito it is posssible to allow cookies, flashplay and javascript per site temporarely (this session only). Great feature, no idea why it is only available running incognito.

    Adhoc
    HitmanPro free scan's

    Hardware based
NAS for unattended contineuos data backup, Router with SPI firewall, USB drive attached to Router via SharePort for monthly data snapshot (using synctoy) and image backups (Win7).

I found a key of Emsisoft Anti-malware and I'll just be using the last 53 days before it expires and then back to freeware mode.
