I updated a certain program. When I tried to run it, DrWeb popped up a very dark screen that said: "Unauthorized attempt to access system." The only choices that DRW gave me were to shut down my computer or terminate the program.

I had DRW & EZ & ClamWin scan that certain program -- no hits.

I strongly suspect it's an FP, but DRW scans memory accesses better than most other antivirus programs, right? So I reverted to an earlier version of certain program.

    Comments would be appreciated.

    grace to you... bellgamin

The Tech Support for that certain program (Ace Utilities) just replied to my email where I reported this issue. It was NOT an FP. They found that the latest version of Ace Utilities (2.4.0.3081) DOES improperly mess with the kernel on Win 98/ME computers. They promised to fix it in the next minor update, in 2 weeks or so.

In the meantime, they said I could get DRW to mellow out if I would go to Spider Guard Settings & uncheck the block: "System kernel protection." I do NOT choose to do that, but shall wait for Ace Utilities to fix this issue.

    Way to go, DrWeb! :D

On 7/25/04, in response to a question I asked about getting an early license renewel, one of DrWeb's CEO's (Boris Sharov) wrote in part...
I have NO idea what Mr. Sharov's definition of "soon" is, however. ;)
