Could somebody please tell this newbie what a CLSID is, and how to find out what the # is for a site you want to restrict? I just went thru a fiasco with the new NetZero 3G upgrade--and got an "Aurora" ad from 'abetterinternet' that will not quit!!! I have used Spybot, but would like to add this site to SpywareBlaster's custom blocking, but I have no clue what the CLSID is that is asked for. Thanx for any help!! P.S., that 3G thing is AWFUL--I can't believe they added spyware to the ISP...now wonder it was a free upgrade of service!!!

Free Netzero and Juno are ad based ISP access to the internet versus their Premium service..but I have never heard of them offering up an "Aurora" ad from 'abetterinternet'. Tell me more about that..

As I recall..using either Juno or Netzero free..when you get your email..you are download a set of ads that are in your bin file..then each time your fire up their program to get on the Net..from that ad cache already on your PC they have one or two ads popup from the bin file you have to click through to use the browers or email..so can you tell me more about why you think this is aurora..and what progran you have identified it to be such.

If it is Sybot calling it Aurora I think it is a false positive..do you have any logs on it..thanks.

    CLSID

Short for Class ID, CLSID is the identification of a COM object. Applications that support Microsoft's COM architecture register their objects as class IDs.

    Tell me more about CLSID

    Excerpt from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/psdk/com/reg_6vjt.htm

"CLSID Key A CLSID is a globally unique identifier that identifies a COM class object. If your server or container allows linking to its embedded objects, then you need to register a CLSID for each supported class of objects.

    Registry Entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID =

    Value Entries

Specifies a name that can be displayed in the user interface. Remarks The CLSID key contains information used by the default COM handler to return information about a class when it is in the running state. To obtain a CLSID for your application, you can use the UUIDGEN.EXE found in the \TOOLs directory of the COM Toolkit, or use CoCreateGuid. The CLSID is a 128 bit number, spelled in hex, within a pair of braces."

Primrose added some good links concerning CLSID....but if you are wanting to restrict what a site does....you will not be using Spywareblaster....nor it's Custom Blocking feature. What you will need to do is find the #(URL or IP address) of the site you want to restrict....and place that address into Internet Explorers Restricted Sites Zone.
