None. Currently my only active Windows install is a VM; I just keep it up to date and make sure it doesn't get exposed to anything even remotely dangerous - no unknown websites, no USB sticks, no dubious optical media, etc.
Using Kingsoft 2012, Roboscan Pro. On one of my machines I'm running a really old version of Norton Internet Security - it came included and I will uninstall it when the trial expires, if I have not replaced XP with Windows 8 by then.
While The Hammer's hypothesis seems more reasonable to me, I don't think any of us can really prentend to objectively know all the exact deep motives of the OP on the moments of creating and posting this poll and its choises. Maybe the OP exausted himself after typing and/or pasting 26 names of options for the poll and that's the reason why he forgot a handful of relevant products (like those from Webroot) and also the option of "none", but not the option of "others" because maybe he also initially wanted to give a completness' aspect to his poll. A less likely hypothesis is that maybe the OP thinks, without recurring to formal logic, that every computer user uses some kind of AV or security suite. A final proposition for this post: the "Other" category may also englobe none (as the OP didn't specify if "Other" refers to "other AV or security suite" of if "Other" refers to "other possible poll's choises", for example).
I went back to Avast! Free recently. Avast performs consistently well in AV tests, the shields are useful, and I love the pre-boot scan feature. I had to ditch Avast for a while because there was a conflict with Avast and Comodo Firewall -- apparently some of the Avast shields acted like a proxy and could possibly cause leaks with Comodo. However, that seems to be fixed in recent Avast versions so I've reinstalled it. Avast takes up about 15MB of RAM on average, which is very reasonable.
I gave up on security suites about 8 years ago. Stopped using AVs about 6 years back. I switched to a default-deny security policy, enforced by system policy/configuration and 3rd party software, (HIPS, firewall, content filtering, etc). Combined, they use far less memory, resources, disk space, processor time, etc than any AV, and my PCs are much faster and more stable as a result, and a lot more secure.
Combined, I think such setup would be more heavy than Webroot SecureAnywhere, but I'm not willing to validate my thinking with proper tests. Performance questions aside, your setup (or something very very similar made on top of a modern OS) seem to require too much "human resources" (above all, patience) to be practical for my tastes.
Not at all. The entire package takes up 22MB of disk space, including backup configurations and logs. Combined memory load is slightly over 10MB. Processor usage varies, rarely over 10%. It's not constantly reading the disks. Disk writes are limited to log files. The initial setup required a fair amount of time and some patience. Now, the only time it requires any input from me is when I change something, which I rarely need to do. The majority of the time, you can't tell it's there.
Norton Internet Security. It works with a minimum of problems. Windows 8 is actually faster with Norton than with the built in security apps, and they update their Firefox plugins on the day Firefox updates are officially released.
As I thought.. that's more, much more, than what Webroot SecureAnywhere uses on average. Now I use Kingsoft 2012, CIS, Kaspersky. I also used and love them all: Avast, AVG, Avira (3 A, lol), PCAV, Bitdefender free, MSE.
I got 6GB of ram. It doesn't make a difference if Avast takes 1.5 mb 150mb or 1.5Gb of ram. What makes a difference is how much CPU it eats. I found Avast to be slowing down my system too much. MSE is way to go. MBAM Pro for active protection.
I don't know why people worry about HDD usage of AV programs, HDD space is so damn cheap to worry about it. I can understand RAM usage because some still own old PC's but IMO for any modern machine it shouldn't be a problem. I got 6GB of RAM also and Windows + my programs only uses 1.5GB . . . so i have 4.5GB of RAM free all the time.
