looking to buy this software, and I'm just putting it through the paces on our W2k3 server box, mainly running Sql Server 2005. So far so good

Saw a lot of other posts, FAQ, and web site doc about SQL server and VSS. The SQL Server 2005 does support VSS, and it's turned on. I just ran a backup and got some interesting event log messages. (sample posted below).

I just wanted to make sure things are cool. From what I understand from a post by Marat Setdikov, essentially TI sets up the VSS proceedure and then aborts it to finish off the job with TI's own application.

TI reported everything was successfull and looking at the restore, the files are there. The event log also show successful freezing of the DBs via VSS before these error messages pop up.

Are these event log messages normal? Will they be fixed in the next version?

    Thanks,
    -Mike Flynn

    Hello uberdoober,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Server Disk Backup Software.

Please note that currently our product uses Microsoft VSS technology only to prepare the databases for the data capture, and the data capture itself is performed by our own technology without use of VSS. The whole procedure of database backup is:
    1) Initialization of VSS
    2) VSS prepares the database for data capture
    3) VSS captures the data
And since we don't need the 3rd step, our software stops VSS provider when databases are ready for data capture. So when the database preparation is over and Acronis True Image stops VSS, a new error message is appended to Event Log.

Currently you can safely ignore these messages (make sure Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows own logs indicate that backing up was successful). Please note that most likely this issue will fixed in the next build.

You can find the detailed instructions on how to use Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows in the respective User's Guide.

    Thank you.
