Whenever i download a program to install, i always save a copy of the webpage/s from the developer/vendors website. This is so i have a permanent set of details/info etc on the app to refer to, which might be weeks/months/years later. Sometimes websites dissapear, along with some really good apps, in those cases all would be lost if i didn't save them.

Every time i use firefox to save a webpage, when i open it from my desktop or saved folder, it's IE that loads up to view the HTML page/s, as that's how my pc saves them. Why arn't they saved in a firefox viewable format ?

Open a folder -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types -> HTML : Next to "Opens with" : Change to Firefox.
