I understand that the SPD incrementals are done by the driver tracking which sectors have changed, and because of this defragmenter's should not be run due to the movement of files resulting in changed sectors. However, I find my system will often start slowing down after a while if I don't defragment.

I've thought about doing a full backup every week, with 15 minutes continuous incrementals in between, and possible automatically running the defragmenter before each full backup (ie. as part of the backup job).

Just wanted to check what other people are doing who are also using continuous incrementals with defragmenters ?

    Defenestration,

I use Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery, which is so similar to SP that it doesn't matter. I defrag 15 minutes before the weekly full backup. As long as you don't defrag during the week, the incremental backup sizes remain small.

I would also say if you do it occasionally, the next incremental might be a bit larger, but after image manger runs, I don't think it will matter. Thats what I do.
