Trojan - Startpage problems -- HELP

    I receive a McAfee VirusScan popup window that says " C:\Windows\hosts was infected by the StartPageDC!hosts trojan and it has been deleted..." The window never goes away.

    I ran the updated McAfee VirusScan software that I have and it shows two files infected - C:\Windows\system.exe with the trojan name of "Generic Qhosts.a"

    I called McAfee, tier 2 support, and they said to reload my XP Home edition operating system again. Before I do this, I want to make sure there are no other alternatives.

    Apparently the McAfee software cannot stop this trojan. Any suggestions on how to prevent it in the future?

    Boot into Safe Mode, and rescan with McAfee.
