Trojan Smitfraud.c

    Hello I'm new and not much a techie. I had this trojan smitfraud.c and a warning message message on my desktop.
    I followed some instructions I read on this site on how to remove it and I think I have now but have a black screen instead of the normal windows XP one.I'm not that concerned about the screen being black but need to be sure it has gone completely as I often transfer money in my bank account on line and use paypal to pay for things on ebay ( I buy records(LP's).
    I lost my credit card recently and had to get a new one but have not registered it on paypal as I'm afraid someone may be reading my details.
    How can I be sure someone isn't spying on me and how can I be sure it's gone ?
