New versions can be so annoying, especially if your program is running stable, without problems (bugs, errors, etc) but if you're having a problematic program, new versions from time to time should be your "pain reliever".
I'm ok with any rate of updates IF and only IF these are rolling updates (meaning they are integrated into the same installation), and when there's an easy way to roll-back to previous version in case it's needed. If this cannot be achieved, then I only prefer yearly major updates.
Some programs offer Too Many New Versions; so Many that you wonder if developers know what they're doing... Other programs offer Too Little New Versions; so Little that you wonder if the program is still alive... I guess something between is the Optimal solution...
I actually like rapid releases. ..makes me feel like the product is constantly supported. ..a somewhat peace of mind..
I feel the same way, if you have new releases to me it means it is still actively being developed..improved and people who care about it generally getting better.
i like frequent updates only problem is uninstall and reinstall, but most of them can be installed over previous versions..
I don't mind frequent updates. I just think the version numbers jumping up is happening too quickly. It seems like even a minor improvement necessitates a new version number. I think Google Chrome should really be on maybe version 3 or 4 at the most. But they have a really high version number just for the sake of having a high number.
Hahahaha Chrome on dev is already on v17 although if you really look into it Chrome versions have slowed down a LOT compared to it initially.
I really don't give a crap when new stuff is released. As far as I am concerned they can release two builds every day. I just update when I'm good and ready. I still use Firefox 3.6 - show me a good solid reason to change to some other number and I shall do so. Hell, I have no idea what the latest version. Software, today, is one big cluster**** anyways.
I don't have any problem with new versions as long I don't need to restart my PC. They can release 100 per day and I won't bother.
I am not against updates. I just don't like a new version number for every tiny improvement. Updates are good IMO.
Both Firefox and Chrome have the same schedule - one full version release every month~ or so. Usually a full release will mean one big "feature" that the user will actually see (a UI change, a noticeable performance change such as GPU acceleration) and often there's also a .1 change to the renderer/engine.
regarding version upgrades,i think opera and maxthon are two browsers that retain the same philosophy of upgrades, and i think Mozilla should do the same with its versions as well, more often than not we have seen that addons do not seem to work after version upgrades.
