    using AVG and Avast
one works as good as other... that is to say never got "hit" yet
Used to run with Norton/Symantec but it really slows down things(substantially) and didn't like how new versions is blocking ports or such as I already have that covered here.
As far as anything negative about AVG can't really think of anything much.
If the server is busy and to's for dl'd update no big deal.

 I'm having no problems with it at the present time, so really can't say one way or the other. I do know on my old machine it would not work however, but then again I had little memory. I do see other post however that do complain about a big foot print. I would be interested in hearing from individuals who have had such experiences. I have posted on the AVAST forum that I wish they make the next version small, forget about the eye candy, and have it as the best "free" virus protection program available.

Some how I think we got away from the thoughts about AVG. I think they also have great potential, and I wish them the best of luck also. It was a real toss up for me, but I went with AVAST only because of all the positive post I have read here at Wilders. I think it is no secret what I think about AntiVir.

    Thanks

Intel made an investment of a few million dollars. They did not acquire Grisoft. See this thread: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=96438&highlight=Intel

Thanks, big difference. That is pocket change to Intel. ;)

Thanks Ronjor should have known you were on top of it. I fly by the forum nearly everyday. Even if I do not post. Again thanks to both of you for the quick response. :)

Culla's probably talking about AV-Comparatives. If so he would be mistaken. http://www.av-comparatives.org/ If it's another one appologies.

Probably another test , because Avast > AVG in the lastest test :D

I have yet to see a ( serious ) test where AVG is better detection wise.

 As I stated some where out here, I was persuaded to switch to AVAST. Well I have tried AVAST for a little over a week now and have switched back to AVG. I found that my system booted up significantly slower with AVAST. I like the ease of use with AVG over that of AVAST. I found the status of data base updates much easier to determine with AVG than with AVAST. I found the on line scan capability much easier to use with AVG than with AVAST.

I never could figure out how to save the on line scan setting in AVAST, have had no problem in doing so with AVG.

I also like the idea that I do not have to interact with AVG as much as I appeared to have to do with AVAST.

These are just my observations, and I do not expect any one to switch because of them, but I pass them along for informational purposes and use for all who care to do so.

    Thanks
    Wildman

    Wildman,
Thanks for posting back with your opinion, (post number eighteen). I care what your opinion is.

Sounds like I should still stick with AVG for my Mom. The less user interaction and decision making the better. I can keep an eye on it on my visits. ;)

 I've got to be careful or I'll have all the AVAST folks looking for my hide, but you called it Mecurie. I would stick with AVG, especially if mom doesn't want to get involved with a virus protection program. My son-in-law has AVG installed on the machine my grandkids use, he has the automatic update time set, and just forgets about it. They have had AVG since back in the days of the 6.0 version, and glad to say they have not had a single problem, and gawd knows what my eldest grandson has tried to visit or download.

Good easy to use program as far as I am concerned.

    Thanks
    Wildman
