It is indeed very nice. I'm wanting to transfer my Gmail messages over but unfortunately, TrueSwitch doesn't currently support @live.co.uk addresses.

For me, hotmail is a backup and I check it infrequently. So I did log in, and it looks like the same-old.

I use gmail. It took some time to get used to it (and the labeling concept), but now I couldn't use anything else.

Mine was just upgraded too today, but Full session SSL is not yet available:

They upgrade per cluster, so you'll have to wait until the cluster where your account is located is upgraded.

Advantages of Hotmail over Gmail, for me -

    1. A reading pane.
    2. Far superior sync with client (compared with POP3, IMAP, SMTP)
    3. Seamless switch between Hotmail and other Windows Live services.
    4. Folders (call me old school, but I don't like tags)
    5. Availability of a dedicated mail client that outperforms every other mail client.

Currently I have set my Gmail, Yahoo and GMX accounts to seamlessly forward all incoming mails to my Hotmail account. Been using this setup since a long time. Works awesome.

Haven't fully explored it yet, but I like what I've seen so far.

I could do without the new wow! and hooray! messages appearing in otherwise empty boxes... but I'll soon grow used to them, I suppose. But empty should be empty. These new messages are almost like low-level nag screens. :)

I have a Hotmail Plus account and I mostly use the Windows Live Mail desktop client, but I've been checking the webmail every so often looking for the new UI. So far it hasn't been implemented. I also have an older free hotmail account that I don't use anymore, but can't kill. I checked it recently and it had the new UI - go figure! :)

What mean, "can't kill"? Just close the account and don't log into it again for 270 days, or whatever number of days it happens to be. :)

Thanks for the link, CR. It was interesting to review the privacy settings. Nothing there alarmed me. :)

The changes look good. I have to stay with gmail since it's integrated into my phone and all my online accounts.

How do you close a hotmail account? I have certainly allowed it to be inactive for very long periods of time, but that hasn't made a difference. I've attempted to find a location in "Options" where this can be done, but it's like wandering lost in a maze.

Starting to like it more and more but help me out with this:
every time I log in my account I'm welcome with 'What's new in windos live' and 'Facebook myspace' accounts feature - how to disable it? I thought when I close with the X it will never come back - how foolish of me...

OK, I gotta admit ... my Hotmail account just looks the same. Maybe MS will get around to me eventually. I think it's their way of getting back at me for *extracting the urine from IE for so long! o_O

*British slang: 'Taking the piss/Extracting the urine' ~ To mock, riducule or denigrate in some fashion, often humorously.

I know exactly what you mean. They don't make it easy to say goodbye, which I'm sure is by design.
Follow this clickstream and you shall find your way through the maze...
    1. sign in
    2. Options
    3. more options
    4. Manage your account
    5. View & edit your personal information
    6. sign in (again!)
    7. in Account overview... scroll to bottom
    8. other options
    9. close your account
    10. you'll again be asked to enter your password
    11. you may get a message saying it can't be closed as long as some other MS account is active (I forget the wording on this). Just tell them to shut that down as well. This deletes all your email in that account.
    12. you get some kind of message wherein they promise to hold your account in case you wish to reopen it by signing in again within 270 (I think) days.
    13. you're all done
    14. wasn't that easy?
    ;)

    .
Thanks for the detailed instructions. I got to the point where I received the message about another account being active. I couldn't get past that though because it says there are billing services associated with it that have to be stopped first. So I went to the billing services site where it says there are no services associated with the account ID. Yay!

and can't we get a different welcome screen?? i found the option: go straight to inbox but nothing's changed, I sill have to see the welcome page first which is a nuisance.

Yay! I have the new Hotmail at last. Now let's see if MS can make good on their promise to keep my junk mail box free of junk. ;)
