Terminal tools for encryption

    So are there any terminal tools that can perform asymmetric/symmetric encryption either through STDIO or with input and output files using a specified key? I'm aware Truecrypt has ability to create containers from terminal but it appears to require user to enter specs and entropy so running it inside shellscript is not going to work.
