Depends on the OS being used. Some don't use the Active flag. Setting the Windows boot partition non-active will generally cause booting problems.

You can't set a drive as active or not active. You just either boot it or you don't.

I assume you got that event when you booted back to Windows with both SSD drives connected? If so, that's normal and expected. Windows won't allow duplicate signatures/ID's.

    no sorry brian
1)i copied the source to destination, shut down the pc
2)disconnect the source ,psu and sata cable
    3) turn on , windows 7 boots perfectly
    4) reboot several time i guess 3 o 4 times without the source
    5) turn off
    6) connect the source to psu and sata
    7) turn on the pc now with 2 source and destination, in my event i found this warning

    what's wrong?
    and is
a nasty problem? could generate problems ,issues or instability?

As we pointed out, you can't have two drives installed with identical Disk Signatures. Deleting the partitions doesn't change the Disk Signature. All you have to do is run BIBM Clear Sig on the drive without an OS. Then the error message will be gone.

    Hi Brian,

This product release thread arouses my curiosity. I realize that as one of Wilders' Terabyte gurus you always update your Terabyte apps with every release, but I'm wondering about the necessity of my doing that. I'm still running Win7 and I find IFW 2.80 (+ all corresponding Terabyte apps) doing their job very well, so I've been reluctant to upgrade with each newer release. What sayeth thou?

IFL has it. In Partition Work. TBWinRE (containing IFW) can zero/edit the Disk Signature from the TBOSDT icon.

mantra, I'm confused as to why you want to clone your SSD. I'd be better able to advise you if I understood what you wanted to accomplish. Is is just a test or do you want two OS?

    TS,

That's not unreasonable. I like to try the new features with each release but in many cases the new features may not be relevant to ones system. Have a look at the update page and "see what's in it for you".

    mantra,

OK. Are you using BIBM to boot the OS?

Did you have both OS on the 128 GB SSD before you bought the 256 GB SSD?

    hi Brian
no i dont' use bibm to boot os

    no , i did not
i bought a second ssd ,moved w7 to the 256gb ssd with the procedure listed above

after with bibm i delete the partitions on the 128gb , and installed w8.1

i use the bios to boot in w8 when i want to do it

    mantra,

It seems that SSD did have an OS. If the OS doesn't boot after the Clear Sig, run a BIBM BCD Edit.

    Brian thanks!

but image for windows had always to compact the data to restore an image to a smaller drive/partition?

    mantra,

IFW does sector based restores so if your original partition was....( * is sectors in use, - is free space)

    [---**----**--]

then the target partition to restore into can not be smaller than...

    [-----------]

So the above would be OK. Let's say the original partition was...

    [---**----***-]

It would need to be compacted to...

    [---**---***--]

Then it would fit into the above target partition. IFW will tell you the sector spread before you create the image so you will know in advance if compaction is needed. Here is an example where compaction isn't needed to copy a large to a small partition.

    [*****--*-----------------------------------------------]

    into a target of

    [------------]

Brian , if i had to sell or give or return a ssd with sensible data , can BIBM perform a fast wipe like Samsung Magician Software or PartedMagic ?

    thanks Brian
