I have a bad feeling about this.

Support.com appears to be peddling scareware. According to this CNET review, they offer a "free" scan of your computer and then ask you to call up to to fix the problems that they found.

I also have a lifetime subscription, and I noticed that a few times a day SAS sends updates. Excellent work.

I trust our lifetime subscriptions will be honored.

I'd be really surprised if Nick didn't ensure that that was the case for those of us who have them.

So they do by phone what Hitman Pro and a few others do through programs, which is scan your system, find issues, and make you pay for help. Besides, that's not pedaling scareware. The ink isn't even dry yet, if it turns out to be a bad thing, nobody should be shocked. It'll just be another in a long line of destroyed products. If it turns into a great thing, or stays relatively the same, we've got nothing to worry about. Let's see where it goes.

+1 Time will tell if we end up having to blacklist SAS or if this is truly a good thing. My only concern at this point is that this is a relatively unknown company.

Oh, dear .. I sincerely wish you good luck ... But sometimes acquisition breaks too much to keep it healthy, so I'd be a bit more cautious with the preliminary statements :(

I sort of have a bad feeling about it but I'm going to wait and see how this goes before making a final judgment.

I don't know about a year or so ago,but on a whim I purchased a license a few months ago,and now use it instead of malwarebytes pro realtime with avast ,as it seems less heavy running. As for detection ,for some reason I always receive those UPS parcel emails with a dodgy attachment.Guess which one is always the first to detect them as malware?..yep SAS ,followed (usually 24 hrs) malwarebytes ,and last but not least avast..Im running 5.0.190 ,and find it very good .Of course its part of layered security ,but if it was going downhill ,i believe its on the way up now.

    So do I.
A yellow rating in WOT is not to be ignored (in spite of what some ignorants say).
CNET's opinion is not to be ignored as well.
What else is not to be ignored:
SAS has been going down for some time.
An unknown company needed a resounding name.
The CEO of SAS needed money.

    All the right ingredients.

I sense an Ewido situation coming soon.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=179073

The "lifetime" in the SAS "lifetime license" just terminated.

It's now countdown time 'till the new owners tell you the clock is ticking for you to pay to continue with the "new" product.

Further, like Ewido, I predict that SAS will disappear altogether (even as a re-named product) within three years.

Good god people, lol. The deal was posted here less than 24 hours ago, calm down. Oh, and this "ignorant" does say WOT can be ignored, because it has proven over and over that its days as an accurate tool are long over. Anyway, I warned Nick this was coming :D

There's is something quite rather confusing at Support.com About page.

    WTH o_O

In 2010/06/12, they say SUPERAntiSpyware is their brand... Are they talking about a different SUPERAntiSpyware o_O :doubt:

What you may have spotted there is a good old fashioned leak :D It wouldn't be surprising, I'm sure this deal wasn't discussed and signed in the last couple of weeks.

I wouldn't go that far regarding WOT.

I made a comparison between WOT, BitDefender TrafficLight and AVG LinkScanner Search-Shield component, and I must say WOT and TrafficLight did fine; that is, they properly rated malicious websites as red/suspicious when they should. WOT was particularly better at flagging phishing domains.

I don't think it's useless. That depends on who uses it. I mean, to whom it's meant to.

Search-Shield on the other hand was a complete stain. lol

Not to throw this discussion off track more, but I'll just say that in the last year, I have found reds and yellows to be labeled as such more often because of users and not because there was anything really wrong. To each their own :)
