    Hello all,

NOD32 just told me there was an update available... It was a very large update and I clicked "yes" to proceed.... I received an error stating it could not replace a file, but it did not reference any particular file... Then I got a message that IMON had detected changes and had repaired them, but the system needed to be rebooted in order for the repairs to take effect.... I checked the status of IMON and it was disabled....

Upon rebooting and doing a manual update, I got the message that NOD32 was up to date...

    Following is my System Information:
    NOD32 Antivirus System information
Virus signature database version:   1.532 (20031010)
    Dated:   Friday, October 10, 2003
    Virus signature database build:   3976

Information on other scanner support parts
Advanced heuristics module version:   1.003 (20030703)
    Advanced heuristics module build:   1031
Archive support module version:   1.005 (20030924)
Archive support module build version:   1061

    Information on installed components
    NOD32 For Windows NT/2000/XP - Base
    Version:   2.000.6
    NOD32 For Windows NT/2000/XP - Internet support
    Version:   2.000.6
    NOD32 for Windows NT/2000/XP - Standard component
    Version:   2.000.6

    Operating system information
    Platform:   Windows XP
    Version:   5.1.2600 Service Pack 1
Version of common control components:   5.82.2800
    RAM:   1023 MB
    Processor:   Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2992 MHz)

Now my question is this, did anything in NOD32 update or was this some kind of fluke? I do not remember what the versions of everything in NOD32 was before this so maybe someone can tell me if anything changed.... I know the virus signature database is up to date, but am not sure if anything else changed... I had previously updated the virus sigs earlier today so I know they were not updated....

    Regards,
    Kent

    Hello all,

Just another quick note... I visited the ESET site but the only references to versions that I could find was for the virus signature database.... I could not find anything about the current component versions....

    Regards,
    Kent

Your info is the same as mine. I had reason to check the components dates and # a day or two ago and they haven't changed since then. Only update I received today that I'm aware of is the definitions update.

Have no idea what the "mystery update" you saw was about. I haven't seen anything like that...not yet anyway. ;)

    Thanks Dan,

It seems it was a strange glitch of some kind then..... Involving my network configuration settings.... The strangest thing was the update part, when there was apparently no update available... And then IMON had to repair the network configuration settings...

It is probably one of those glitches that I will never know what happened to cause it...

But, at least for now, all seems to be OK....

    Regards,
    Kent

    Thanks for the reply sig,

I do not know the reason of the "mystery update" either o_O , but as all appears OK now, I guess there is nothing to worry about  .....

    Hello,
In my Advanced heuristic module build appear 1032 and not 1031. The other information is the same.

Just to sum up the differences we are seeing....
There seem to be two versions of the Advanced heuristics module:
    1.) Advanced heuristics module version: 1.003 (20030805)
    Advanced heuristics module build: 1032
    and
    2.) Advanced heuristics module version: 1.003 (20030703)
    Advanced heuristics module build: 1031

The module version is the same with two different dates and the build number is different..... When you try to update the 20030703 dated version build 1031, the updater says your NOD32 is up to date......

This is not the original problem I was having, but it is indeed curious..... I guess we will have to wait until Monday for someone from ESET to explain this.....

    Regards,
    Kent

I was wondering if recent NOD download/installs come with the newer (August) a/h module build and mul's post seems to confirm that.

Then of course that raises the question why those of us with older installs haven't yet gotten the newest module build. Another mystery. ;)

Let's see if someone drops by during the work week to explain it all to us or as noted, if anyone wants to email ESET support that's another route.

Yeah, why doesn't the "Advanced heuristics module build" get updated?

That's the only difference between mine and the mul's. Pete

Am I glad you guys posted this information. I was on vacation for three weeks and returned Sept 24. When I booted my computer, NOD immediately tried to update. I got the update I thought because the virus signature database updated. However, I also recall the NOD said to reboot indicating there was some component update also. Then I got a page fault error and blue screened.

I had a terrible time rebooting. When I finally got it rebooted , I checked and saw the new database. What I did not realize until now, looking at the information you guys have posted, is that I have an outdated archive support module version! It looks like that is what tried to update on Sept 24 and evidently failed! Plus, I too have the older adv. heuristics module.

When I ask NOD to update, it says it is updated. So, how do I get the 9/24 archive support module version?

    Mele,

You might try removing NOD32 and reinstalling it.

I just removed NOD and then downloaded the latest version from the website. Installed, updated and I still have the old archive support module from Sept 9. Plus, I was forced to install IMON! Before, I have been given the option to not install IMON. I don't use it so I don't want it installed. This is sure a bummer. I took this time and I still don't have the latest archive support module, but instead got something I don't want! :(

Is there any particular reason why someone from Eset can't take a very few minutes with us here and answer this very simple question?

Why doesn't the "Advanced heuristics modules build" get updated along with everything else in the normal course of an update?

    Thank you. Pete

    Hi all,

to the different number of the Advanced heuristics module (AHM) build:

sorry for that - it was our mistake - the AHM's 1031 and 1032 are the same - just its number in the updates is 1031 and in the installation package 1032 - but it is the same AHM - it will be fixed in the next AHM update - released according to the needs.

    Archive support module version:

the ones with the older version - have you tried to update NOD, restart the machine and check for changes?

    Thanks :)

the ones with the older version - have you tried to update NOD, restart the machine and check for changes

I tried that and no changes. So I installed the latest version of NOD and still didn't see the changes until I rebooted. When I posted here earlier that I didn't get the changes even after installing the latest version of NOD, it was my mistake. I had not yet rebooted. I should have known to reboot especially with W98SE! A prompt would have been nice though. (I did reboot once at the end of installation but saw no changes in the archive support module version. It was only after I routinely rebooted again at the end of the day that I finally saw the changes).

I too say thanks for the explanation about the differences in the adv. heuristics module. Thanks for taking the time to tell us...minor thing, but we were wondering.
