I'm thinking of trying something different. What other programs (preferably free) that might be a bit stronger than ST? I 've heard that ST is a little weak in detections and in scanning. I use the HIPS feature in ST but was wondering if there are any better ones.

At the moment BoClean and Threatfire look interesting. Also although I'm not a dunce , I'm not security expert either I would like to use a program that isn't too hard to understand and configure as well.

Well ST is a realtime antispyware with hips. TF is a behavior blocker and won't take the place of ST. BoClean is a malware scanner and also not specifically targeted at spyware. If you're looking for free realtime AS programs, then Spyware Terminator or Windows Defender are your best bet. You could also look at Spybot w/ teatimer.

Another option entirely would be using free antivirus/antispyware programs like avast, avg, rising, Comodo, etc.

IMHO, if you add NoScript to Adblock+ with your Firefox, and maybe switch out Avira free for Avast free, you should stay spyware-free.

DS is the closest full fledged program with real-time that could replace ST. and I definetly prefer DS

I see you are using Online Armor. It has very decent HIPS capabilities. IMO, Avast has a litlle better spyware/adware detection rate than Avira Free and if you would use A-Squared Free as on-demand scanner (the last version powered with A-Squared and Ikarus engine is great improvement with unbelievable good detections) you will be very well equipped. :D

Oh, did not realize that OA free had HIPS capabilities. Interesting. That doesn't conflict with ST with HIPs enabled does it? I forgot to update my sig as I now have Super AntiSpyware free as my OnDemand scanner. I think I might give Drive Sentry a try. I have used Avast before but it seemed to slow down my laptop a bit , but that was before I upgraded from 256mb to 2GB of ram.

OA HIPS is much stronger and developed than ST, so with OA on u can just disable ST's HIPS

I've noticed that DS has a version for usb and other portable drives. Didn't think you'd need protection for your usb drives.

About Drive Sentry. Since it has HIPS and OA has HIPs will they conflict at all?

There is no other alternatives for you. You simply have too much protection. Not even Al Capone can break into your computer. :argh:

    Peace.

Since Drive Sentry claims it is anti-virus, will it conflict with a-v software?
