I've been using Spybot since 2004 and even though I use paid anti-spyware apps with it, I still keep it in my arsenal. I don't use it with tea-timer or immunization as it conflicts with KIS.

Does it conflict with KIS or you're saying it because KIS says it so?

Here is a review on S&D.

If they had more resources, this could be a nice app.

I still use it on some Windows machines.

I like the immunization feature, and the advanced mode features as the analyzer for hosts file, activex, bho, lsp etc.

I dislike the TeaTimer module: it is very useful for an advanced user but average users will (after complaining multiple times with IT department) allow anything anytime anywhere fooling any feedback based security mechanism... It is not unlike from what Vista do with security messages, in 7 MS did a good work in dramatically reduce them in order to keep them on a frequency the average user will at least try to read and understand them.
TeaTimer messages still seems to me a bit too much for the average user.

Overall IMHO it is a bit slow to load and scan, but as for what I can see from updates it is still actively developed as the (huge) database of known malware and of immunization patches are frequently updated, so my opinion about S&D is still, overall, positive.

I don't think v2 has been released yet.

Revo uninstaller makes uninstalling SBSAD easy as pie. :D

IMO, Spybot is in the same class as F-Prot 3.16. AVZ, MBAM -- much better for my web prefs.

Still using its immunization feature. IMO much better than Spyware Blaster. Because it supports more browser and also has a host file list.
I also use their scanner very occationally.

Agree, the same in my experience.
Not only I think it is still a viable solution for the average user (I've expressed some critics about how it could improve, but overall I like it), but I've also to thank its team to have provided a quality work for all the years I've used the software.

In the field of security software, frequent update of definitions and modules is one of the most important factor, and here S&D never disappointed me.
No one knows the future, but if developers of S&D keep up the good work as in past years I'll keep trusting them, even if I keep my ideas about areas where the software should improve - but trusting the developers is more important here, as we are talking of a security software.

I wore it to On-Demand and Immunization, gave me no problems but never found anything.

I can not tell he is good or bad! :shifty:

Yeah I've read this too. Thought about adding it as an on-demand scanner. Maybe give it a go one day. Always good to see that it's free and still being developed. Would be rude not to try it! :)

I'm keeping it for the Immunize feature, its on-demand scanner isn't really effective (as of right now).

Spybot Search & Destroy helped me clean my system from infections like cool www search and spy sheriff. But that was a time when antivirus software did not protect against spyware and adware and IE 6 was the dominant browser. Now antivirus software are improved and my browsing habits are now safer and I also use sandboxie to isolate browsers and removable media I see no need to use spybot. Infact I am not using any anti malware apart from the resident av:)

We have come a long way, since the Spybot S&D and Ad-aware era...
MBAM, SAS, and modern AV products are the dominant players now.

While I do have a soft-spot for Spybot Search & Destroy, I will have to agree with you on that point.

I just need 1.21 Gigawatts and a DeLorean, and I'll be back in that much simpler time.

Yes, I think Spybot is past its 'sell by' date. I had a bad experience with it once so I may be a little biased. There is a portable version.

Good 'ol Dr. Who :D I can tell you that I'll receive a lot less visits from the Feds if I turn to the TARDIS.
