http://www.zdnet.com/target-reportedly-victim-of-security-breach-since-black-friday-7000024476/ These hacks and data-breaches are nowadays happening on such a regular, and seemingly increasing rate, it's very alarming for those affected. Let me guess, this could be due to unpatched ColdFusion (or similar) most likely? Keep systems patched...please!
My bank has already issued a new debit card. Which I will not get for days. I have very little interest in using it when it comes. I think I am going back to carrying cash. And maybe a weapon.
It didn't take long for the vultures to start sending spam about fixing your credit card problems, offering free credit reports. Both dated Dec21, funny considering today is the 19th. Not much advice is given anywhere about people who have Target;s own red card. Might get difficult to prove that you did not buy whatever ... if the location is your usual store rather than some place a continent away.
I only used one card at Target during the affected period. I called the cardholder last week and canceled it. They overnighted me a replacement card (when I mentioned that I wasn't keen on the idea of waiting for 6 days for a new one to arrive via snail mail). The card company will cover unauthorized uses, but the potential for more damage via identity theft is what had me most concerned. As for carrying a weapon, concealed carry permits are definitely on the rise all across the country.
“To date, there is no evidence that unencrypted PIN data has been compromised. In addition, based on our communications with financial institutions, they have also seen no indications that any PIN data was compromised,” They don't deny that encrypted PINs could have been stolen, and that's what previous informations said.

Yeah, sharing the facts is something Target has been real good at lately. I replaced the only credit card I used at Target. It's pretty much the only choice customers have, if they are serious about protecting themselves.
