I dont think there is good zero day protection. Infact there is no HIPS component at all. Correct me if I am wrong.
Perhaps you can read this about zero day : SophosLabs™ has developed Behavioral Genotype® Protection to prevent this happening. It's an unique method of threat detection which means many threats can be identified without ever running malicious code. https://www.sophos.com/en-us/security-news-trends/security-trends/zeroday-threats.aspx I think there will be some form of zero day protection in it. Edit: uninstalled because no Quarantine (no option to restore files) Slower internet browsing, no scheduled scans
Final version released? There is no quarantine to restore detections? That means it deletes the detection? Not good. Website Category not working? I selected "Block" for adult websites. And tried couple adult websites but were not blocked. Note - Tried under Shadow Defender so system was not restarted. Dont know if it requires system restart to function fully?
Thanks for the link. Important think to note is whether that component is part of free product is not clear. We need more clarity by sophos to know exactly what is missing from free version which is present in paid.
This Product didn't sit well on my system, in itself it felt light but boot up and browsing speed took a severe hit
Yes here also, navigating in computer and browsing speed a little slower, no real Quarantine to restore files, no scheduled scans , a little to heavy ... why does it need 200 MB Ram memory?! i like it but it needs more improvements .... (uninstalled)
when you say........ "navigating in computer and browsing speed a little slower" is after test? or just you feel slower your pc?
Yes browse my folders (folder with .exe files are open/render very slow) in windows and also on internet with Firefox is little slower, and pc seems slower too, not to much ..... but i will give it time, maybe i 'll try again when there is an update version What do you mean after test ? which test ?
I also didn't like that it deleted without quarantine. Worse still was having to go online to change a setting. Came off pretty quick.
if you just feel it maybe its illusion..... it is very difficult to benchmark antivirus perfomance..... needs professional work
@simisg I disagree. If an antivirus appears to cause a noticable drop in performance, then almost certainly it does. You don't need benchmarks for that - if there's any doubt, just uninstall the antivirus and see if the system runs faster. The only use for benchmarks is to compare the system impact of different antiviruses.
most drops of perfomance are seconds.....and different from pc to pc....... in my opinion is very difficult to say ..... i just feel my pc slowest.... but yes only when exists noticable drop but yes ok i fill for example mse lighter to.....but some times i feel it heavier
@simisg From my experience, more often than not when an antivirus casuses noticable slowdowns (and just about all do on my Core 2 Duo laptops), it is a very noticable slowdown.
Well its not an illussion i can tell that this slowdown is about 5 - 10 seconds longer to render my icons in a folder with .exe files measured without a chronometer .... like in the old days with mse that caused a major slowdown.
I definitively can feel there's a delay in Windows with this AV, but only the first time you open something (I suppose it's checking the cloud). After that, it's indeed very fast. What I can't stand is the lack of options, as mentioned in this thread.
When I used the paid version, Sophos cloud, I experienced slight delay in browsing. The worst part was I could not save images from browser. If I right click something, it would give a pop minute later. There are other things which I really like about Sophos free: 1. Limited options. Yes, I know many people dont like it but its perfect to install on my dads computer. He is not tech savvy and I want to take control. I can do any change of setting online without being in front of his PC. This is truly awesome. I dont think there is any other suite, not even paid, which give this feature. 2. Free, yet it does seem to have everything. I am not sure about HIPS component. This is something I need more clarity from sophos. 3. Plain AV. No xyz bloat components like password manger etc.
No not possible, registration is easy than you can download the installer, if you dont want to use it anymore just uninstall
Looks like it's been officially released. "Sophos Home: Free antivirus for Windows and Mac users" http://www.zdnet.com/article/sophos-home-free-antivirus-for-windows-and-mac-users/ https://home.sophos.com/reg
A little information on their Blog about Sophos Home https://blogs.sophos.com/2015/12/23...e-and-free-way-to-protect-your-family-online/
Haven't tried it, but what stops me is the apparent absence of quarantine. How does one get around an FP?
Actually 2 issues stop me, and the 2nd might releate to Pauls. 1. Recent report of vulnerabilities in quite a few of the enterprise grade AV's Sophos was one of them. Where that issue stands I don't know. 2. Any and all control settings are via the online management console, which means to change anything you have to log in to the panel. To big a pain for my taste.
