Sony Recalls 69,000 Vaio AC Power Adapters

Sony issued a recall for 69,000 Vaio AC power adapters, after reports that the devices have a higher risk of short-circuiting. The recall applies to adapters that came with notebook docking stations, and all-in-one computers, that sold after a certain date. Sony has released new Windows 7-equipped models in its Vaio line as it competes in the PC market against other manufacturers including Hewlett-Packard and Lenovo for market-share.

The recall applies to AC power adapters model VGP-AC19V17 that came with notebook docking stations sold after Sept. 2005 (specifically, the VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 models) and all-in-one computers sold after Sept. 2007 (the VGC-LT, VGC-JS240, VGC-JS250, VGC-JS270, and VGC-JS290 series). I think Sony's product range is TOO big. They sell too many products - alarm clocks, stereo systems, boom boxes, cd players, MP3 players, DSLRs, digital cameras, TVs, CD drives, floppy disks, computers, laptops, etc etc.

None of them are particular successful, except for the audio-related stuff and video-related stuff. I think Sony needs to focus more on a smaller range of products, and maybe improve their quality control. Although Sony products are generally reliable, I have had a Sony stereo system fail.
