I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP and it has an 75 GB HDD. We recently had an eMachines that died but I think the HDD is still good, it's 160 GB. Should I be able to replace the physical drive and boot with my Macrium recover disk and restore a previous image on the new HDD? Anyone have experience and know of any pitfalls I might encounter? Thanks.

    allizomeniz,

Can you look in Disk Management and let us know about the partitions on the 75 GB HD?

Well I bit the bullet and just did it.

Long story short I ended up reinstalling Windows on the new drive. May not have had to, but I ran into several problems I couldn't figure out. After reinstalling, I restored my Macrium image and it worked fine.

The biggest mistake I made was not unattaching some removable drives before I started. I ended up having to format them, but luckily they didn't have anything that couldn't be replaced.

Well worth it for all the new disk space. :)
