Hi, I recently noticed an alien icon on my desktop - a red box with a diagonal white cross, like an "X", and the word "andy1".

Fearing a virus, I ran housecall antivirus at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Housecall identified the following on my machine, which is a windows XP machine:

    "TROJ SMALL.FO"

The truncated path shown by housecall was "C:\Documents and settings\MainUser\local...." but I couldn't get it to show me the full path to the file concerned - the housecall scanner box was too small and non-resizeable :(

Read the guidelines at https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=15913, and accordingly, ran adaware & spybot search and destroy, both updated to the latest pattern files.

Spybot search and destroy found and removed 35 problems; Ad-aware found and removed 27 problems.

Then, rebooted & ran HijackThis. My log is posted below.

Can anyone help me remove the TROJ SMALL.FO virus manually, and anything else that's showing up in my HijackThis log that seems iffy? I'm a fairly inexperienced user so treat me gently ;)

Many thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi emmamoi

    Is this your entire log??

Your log looks clean to me.

Empty your Temporary Internet Files and history in Internet Options. And clean out your
    %Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp
folder. It's a good idea to do that regularly.

Then Disable system restore: Instructions here
    Reboot

    Enable System Restore.

Pls. post another log - will see if now something shows up. Thanks.

    Hi Marianna :)

Did as you suggested, then, re-ran trend housecall antivirus - TROJ SMALL.FO is now nowhere to be seen. Thanks very much!

Checked my HijackThis log & yes, think that was the full log. Here's a fresh one.. can you take a brief look & confirm it seems ok?

Once again, very much appreciate your help. Em :D

then check in HJT the following items - close ALL windows\browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked":

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redi...=ie&ar=iesearch
