Hello sheda,

Delete the contents of the "temp" folder and completely delete the cache folders by doing this.

Open Internet Explorer. Then click on TOOLS in the top toolbar. Click on "Internet Options..." from the drop-down menu.
A new smaller window will display. Under the "General" tab, in the middle, are 3 buttons.
Click the Delete Cookies button - then a small warning box pops up. Click OK.
Click the Delete Files button - a small warning box pops us. Check the box for "Delete all offline content" and click OK.
Then on the same General tab, click Clear History, then click OK

I am not seeing much wrong with your log. What kind of problems are you having?

I would like you to run Hijackthis again and check these items and then on Fix:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe028.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

Reboot.

Next, download Spybot S&D Check for Updates first, download ALL Updates and Do a Scan. When finished, make sure ALL RED items have been ticked, and click the "Fix Selected Problems" Button.

Reboot the computer.

Reboot and post a new log here.

Re: Assistance with 'Hijack This' log

Thank you so much, Taz!

From time to time, it seems that my computer is lagging... Sometimes, it freezes up. This doesn't happen a lot, but it definately worries me when it does. I used to have a lot of spyware and what not on this computer, and after I rid my computer of that, it worked like brand new. I wondered if that might have been the case. I do my best to be careful with programs and monitoring what is downloaded onto this computer, but sharing it with the rest of my family, it's hard to avoid everything.

I also read that multiple instances of running svchost is a sign of a virus-- is true? I've seen that time and time again on this computer and that too worries me.

This is my current Hijack-This log:

Re: Assistance with 'Hijack This' log

Hello,
The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a list of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services. Therefore, separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This grouping of services permits better control and easier debugging.
When is the last time you did a defraged your drive?

In HJT you can check this one, it is a resource hog. It will only remove the link:

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Also, do you use Quicken enough that you want it to start up everytime you computer starts? If not, check these:

O4 - Global Startup: Quicken Scheduled Updates.lnk = C:\Program Files\Quicken\bagent.exe <<<<<<<<<Not sure but you may have to disable the updates in the options to keep it from coming back. You can still do updates, you would just have to open Quicken instead and do it manually.
O4 - Global Startup: Quicken Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Quicken\QWDLLS.EXE

Let me know about the defrag. Also, how much RAM do you have? Is it enough for all those startups?

Thank you, Taz.

That makes me feel a lot better about the svchost.exe file. Thank you.

I don't remember the last time I defragmented... so I decide that it was time to do so. I was surprised- it was done (for both hard drives C and D) within 15-20 minutes.

Re: Assistance with 'Hijack This' log

Hello,

I see something in startup that shouldn't be there.

Run Hijackthis again and check this item:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe

Reboot the computer into safe mode

Make sure you can view all hidden files and folders

Find and delete these files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe

Reboot and post a new log.

I personally think you have enough ram.

Thanks for all your great advice-- I was wondering if you could give a quick glance to my HT log as of now, just to make sure that things are gettting along smoothly... Thanks!

Re: Assistance with 'Hijack This' log

Hello,

Yes I do see some more to fix.
Run HJT again and check these items and then on Fix:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AC109D01-32D6-4EB5-8300-D3C5EBAC7C83} - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\x2ff\x2ff.dll

O16 - DPF: {ABD45F35-2E4C-44C0-A075-6EF1DE75398E} (ClearStream Accelerator) - http://www.riversoftware.net/x0ff.cab

This one is an optional fix: (resource hog and only removes the link)
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Reboot and post a new log.

Hey... I'm not exactly sure that my problem is solved... when I ran ad-aware this week, I found "wildtangent" and "backweb lite" :doubt:

Are you sure this is clean?

Hello sheda,

The only backweb I see is for your Kodak Software updater. If you go into the Kodak program, there is probably somewhere in options or something that you can uncheck so that it doesn't automatically look for updates or auto start. Check that out first.

I see no Wild Tangent. When you run Adaware, have you deleted what is in quarantine?

Tell me what files they say are affected.

Actually, I have no idea which files Ad-aware said were affected because I had removed all of them. So I'm pretty sure that that's taken care of. :D

And as for the Back-Web Lite, you were right. (That rhymes!) I deselected "automatic notification of updates" and I'm assuming that that's what you were talking about.

Thanks so much for all your help, Taz. :) I'm gonna miss going online and checking up on WildersSecurity to see if you posted yet. :'( Thanks again.

- Sheda.
