I got the spellchecker in the same day I installed Firefox. If it makes you feel better, it does everything EXCEPT catch misspelled words. It looks like it is, but it doesn't.

Ron: Thhis is one thing I couldn't do without. It is very similar to IESpell for Internet Explorer and I actually know people who wouldn't switch to Firefox until there was something similar to IESpell for FF. Now there is and it is wonderful!

If so, I'd sure like to figure out what I have to do to make mine work, too! I wonder if it's because I didn't download dictionaries. The only part of that that doesn't make sense is that it looks like it's checking.

    Hi guys.
Have been using the Fox for some time now.
    Realistically no problems. (except banks!!!)
Never a problem with unwanted downloads.
Spy/Malware scans all clear for months.
Interestingly, integrates well with Symantec Active X control.

(Ronjor : no further strange pages)

Having the same problem as the Snowbound.

(if the mods can't fix , what hope for I?)

Having had no problems with initial extensions downloading and installing,

...just recently have not been able to get any extensions to install.

No real help in the FF forums.

One suggestion was to save the file (.xpi format) then drag onto open browser page.
Have not actually tried this yet.
    Any other suggestions??

Right Click the DL link and choose save as and save the .xpi file ... Then from FireFox choose "File" -> Open File -> Navigate to where you saved the extension, and open it.

Remember you have to temp. allow software installation (Tools --> Options --> Select Web Features in the left pane, an enable choice #2) once you've loaded it ... close & restart FireFox ... and you'll be good to go. Then disable software installation once again. ;)

    HTH, ;)

Are there any extensions that work like WindowWasher?

When I close IE, WW automatically cleans up. That would be a nice feature for FF.

Thank you for pointing that out. It's hard to understand how I overlooked it...unless perhaps I downloaded from a different place. I think it was on a page listing many different things. I looked at the link you provided, and it makes the most sense to choose the first option, called "Windows spell check libraries from the Mozilla 1.7.5 Windows XPI directory (includes the en-US dictionary)." I trust there will be an installation wizard. The way it looks as it's pasted in, that may be two downloads. :doubt:

I just tried reinstalling that extension. Both spellbound and the dictionaries.

Firefox 1.0 doesn't seem to like the dictionaries. ?

I wonder if the spell checker works working for anyone. Anyone?

Didn't someone else recently show this mess on their pages, Firefox related? I didn't have it earlier, but do, now...will hunt down solution.

Hey Jayzzz, I followed the Dogs steps from the earlier post and spell checker works fine now.
I was having trouble getting the dictionary to download and install. Not sure why but it finally worked.

    Dan

    Here's a shot. :D
