I was under the impression that the images on the flashdrives were only being restored in which case they should still be the same images that used to restore much faster and a defrag wouldn't make a difference.

What format are the flashdrives using (FAT32, NTFS, etc.)?

I know the image is on the flashdrive, but can you clarify if the image you are restoring from the flashdrive now is exactly the same image that you were restoring previously at a much faster transfer rate.

Also, is the flashdrive formatted as FAT32 or NTFS?

I've been using the same image for a while, my co worker can dump the same image from his flash in 2 mins.

My Raxco PerfectDisk 8.0 can't but Window's built in defrag tool can. Still, if it's the very same original image that has suddenly slowed, and it hasn't been moved off then back onto the thumb drive, then fragmentation is unlikely to be the problem.

It might be worth establishing what file system your co-worker's flash drive was formatted to. Reformat your thumb drive to the same format and then dump that image back from your co-worker's drive back to your's and see what happens. Granted it's a long shot, and wouldn't explain why a restore suddenly slowed up, but worth trying nevertheless.

In that case, reformat it as FAT32 (maybe there are some "iffy" clusters) and then copy the image back to it as I suggested. Not sure it will help but, in the absence of anything else, it's worth trying nevertheless.

Reformatting to FAT solved the transfer issue, thanks! Why would anything higher then FAT cause a slow transfer? I was able to reformat using a win2k.

Are you saying that reformatting the thumbdrive as FAT32 didn't fix the slow transfer problem but reformatting as FAT did? If that's the case then I simply have no idea why that should be so. o_O With luck, someone else may chip in and offer a valid explanation.
