SINGAPORE : Singapore's students have emerged tops in an international Science and Mathematics study, beating other countries like Japan and the US.

49 countries participated in the tests and study conducted by the International Association for Evaluation of Educational Achievemnet based in Boston.

The study noted Singapore's consistently good performance over the years.

From the survey results, they said this could be due to the students' positive attitude towards their studies, access to educational resources and a conducive school environment.

Some 12,000 Singaporean students from Primary Four and Secondary Two sat for the tests two years ago.

This news comes as a Stanford University study found that students in US schools, which use Singapore Mathematics textbooks are getting better grades.

Ever thought about the people who were stoned to death......

Now I am sure that that wasn't what Detox was meaning, but I still think it is not appropriate to post such things, period.

uh, right. Surely my posting in jest about throwing rocks (not that anyone here other than myself would make a joke about Detox throwing rocks) is a truly remarkable and most hateful idea on my part; but uh... well nevermind because anything I would post from here on out on this subject would simply be a load of bull.

    Dear Jan,
Though I agree with your arguements, I'd say: Give the people a little break.
Most of us are discrete and have well judgement on what and how to post.
IMHO it always should be possible to make a joke. It's mostly in the eye of the beholder/receiver to feel offended, don't you agree?
We post with good intentions and don't want to offend. Nevertheless we ought to take possible offense in consideration. But if we would have to 'weigh' every word (dunno if that correct English?) we better stop posting altogether.

Perhaps it's a suggestion to make a smiley or some other signal on the board, where one can see things are not ment that seriously, but as cynicism, sarcasm or joke. (Though that would in most occaisions just spoil the effect/fun btw...)

    Just some thoughts.

    Regards,
    slam

    Dear Detox, dear Slam,

Thanks Slam for your good points !
You're right; it is someting I have to think about !

    Detox,
If I offended you, I'm really sorry for doing that !
I had better used other ways and/or other words...

It was only that I myself didn't like -even in a joke- to see a posting about having lots of fun for throwing rocks at people and to hurt them and to make them cry.
It's just that there is far too much violence in this world.

    It's Christmas time
May there be a little Peace

    Dear Detox,
It really would be my wish to be friends again !!!!!

    Jan.
