Personal example; its tough to believe what happened to me two days ago. I sent in an application for an IP PIN for 2016 month(s) ago. My 2015 taxes went fine so I did this as a precaution for next year ahead of time. I get a letter sent via the USPS that they received communication from me and that it would be another 45-60 days before they could respond or help me. So, why even send the letter back? After looking at the letter I was less then happy. There in plain site, using simple USPS first class mail, was my full SSN along with all the address stuff an identity thief would ever need. So, if my neighbor gets my mail or the letter gets lost the IRS thinks its totally fine to display everything including my full SSN to anybody that can read? I find this infuriating from an agency that holds the most sensitive data of all USA residents. Mad as hell here!!
