SecThought.E

Hi there. I'm new to this. My AVG will occassionally come up with a warning that the computer has been infected with Trojan Horse SecThought.E . I'll run a virus scan and it can't be put in the vault. Deleting temporary internet files and then it won't come up on the scan again until another message comes up. I restarted in Safe Mode and deleted the folder that it was listed under because trying to look up the virus that was a suggestion. (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OTG1YN8D\install026[1].exe) There hasn't been any actual symptoms other than the AVG messages. I now came across this webpage. I run both Ad-Aware and Spybot on the computer but before the HijackThis scan I only ran Spybot. I hope this is what is needed. Thanks so much!

I ran HijackThis while still in safe mode. Should I restart in normal mode and run it again? Thanks again.

 

Hi liz149,

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

Then reboot and in IE click Tools > Internet-options > general Tab > Delete files > put a checkmark in the confirmation box to remove offline content as well.
