    No need use an extension when a simple bookmarklet is available.

    You can add isitup.org as a Firefox search engine. You can tell checksite.us to monitor the URL for 3 days and email and/or send you a SMS if it comes back up. You can tell titsup.net to monitor the URL for 24 hours and email and optionally send you a tweet if it comes back up. titsup.net also generates a log.

    There are many others.
