    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

I've just installed the rfwfree09 one on my Vista 64 bit and all is going good even moved the date up 2 months to see if it would expire and so far its running with no issues.

Hi, my current security setup (xp sp3) is:
LUA/Surun, AviraAVfree, SygateFWfree and Sandbxied Firefox.
Is Rising FW an improvement over Sygate? Thanks

After todays update, I dont't know what to say about Rising FW.
It went from lightweight, to a monster.
There is a new GUI and some extra stuff like URL Filtering.

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, as Masterkey posted, it has become quite bloated in its new version.
I am gearing towards PCTools firewall now.

    Re: Rising Firewall Free Edition?

Hi there. I just got around to updating both ravfree and rfwfree after neglecting to do so for a couple of wks. and ended up with the new 2009 versions of both.
Aside from the trial nags, rfw 2009 is now fubar, i'm gobsmacked at how quick such a good prog can turn into steaming dung in one fell update session.
After having to reconfigure, i totally failed at GRC, in fact i don't think the thing was even on though my settings were the same as with 2008... that is highest
possible protection in all catagories, same as before, and as with rav, and set to start at boot. After fiddling for an hr i uninstalled both, no mean feat either as
i no longer trusted the prog's uninst i used Revo and CC, Avanced Sys Care and Glary to minimize scraps i may have to hand pick later. So now i'm running XP
SP2 without fw or resident av. Everyone likes Comodo, but i just haven't the time or money to spend a session answering the same stupid questions over
and over, ad nauseum, ad infinitum. At least RFW did it's job without the infernal quizzing. And with solid stealth at GRC.
Thanx for letting me rant. I should head to the Rising boards to see what i can, and i know that Chinese prefer westerners who are civil and courteous,
but neither accurately describe my mental state at this moment.

 Well, some time has passed and i am now posting to correct an egregious error in judgement made in haste, frustration, lack of sleep and over-abundance of libation o_O. While i have never actually seen a program self-destruct from a simple update as did Rising free FW from 08 to 09, had i my wits about me i might have surmised that total deletion followed by install of new product might have solved my problem, as in fact it did. I am now up and running and all is well. :thumb:

I apologize if my previous comments put off anyone who might have thought to try what is, at least for my own present purposes, the best free SW FW solution.
Proving again, i think, that if one is getting pissed at a computer, the best thing may be to just step away for a while. Serenity now. Cheers to all.

Not so free? Not again? After todays update it keeps asking for a license.
Another scare tactic, and later they will remove the popup like before?

repost it to rising 2009 thread

just installed Rising Antivirus 2009, noticed that there are several requests for connection to the internet....

    firewall prompted these

    RavCopy Module
    RegGuide Application
    Rising Installation Program
    Rising RsShell
    Rising tray framework
    rsnetsvr
    Smartup Application

are the above necessary? isnt it too many?

Its too much for sure, report these in with them - a whitelist is a must especially for their own modules
